Tour van hits two vehicles on dangerous hill road

PHETCHABUN - A tour van had a brake malfunction, according to the driver, and hit two other vehicles, injuring six people, while descending Phu Thap Boek mountain in this northern province on Sunday.

The accident occured at the notorious S1 curve on Joh Who-Phuhin Rongkla Road in tambon Ban Noen of Lom Kao district about noon.

Police said the van driver told them the brakes failed as he entered the accident-prone S1 curve. He was unable to slow down and the van hit a passenger car and an oncoming pickup truck.

Six injured people were taken to Lom Kao Hospital.

Police were still investigating the cause of the accident.
