As soon as the great North tidy-up is complete following the Great North Run, the spruced-up city will be ready to receive another influx of sport-lovers in readiness for the Tour of Britain.
Newcastle will be helping to host stage three of the cycling event on Monday, September 9 and will provide the setting for its grand final sprint after the riders have passed through Northumberland and North Tyneside.
Here's our and those who are planning to be in the city centre on the day will also want to know about access so here's some vital information about road closures and parking restrictions.
The estimated time of the Tour of Britain lead riders' arrival into the Newcastle city centre on Monday is 3.36pm.
The lead cars and outriders are expected to arrive about 20 minutes before this. The rest of the cyclists will follow in the leaders' wake.
In readiness to receive the riders, there will be road closures in place around the finish line at the Monument from midnight on Sunday until 8pm on Monday - with no parking in Grey Street allowed during this period - and a full road closure will be in place throughout the city centre between 1.30pm and 4pm on the day.
Ahead of the final sprint on the route up from the Quayside, to the finishing point at the Monument, roads such as the B1600 Quayside; Sandhill Road; Side, Dean Street and Grey Street will be closed from 2.30pm until 4.30pm.
There will be a 'rolling' road closure, starting at Walker on the A186 and ending on the Quayside, from 3.10pm and 3.50pm.
The Newcastle Guildhall car park on Newcastle Quayside will be closed all day.
The Dean Street car park will remain open but there will be restricted access between 3pm and 3.45pm while the race passes.
Road closures in Northumberland and North Tyneside will be in place across the region earlier in the day.
Besides rolling closures, these will include full closure of the Belford A1 -the B1342 - from 11.45am until 12.30pm for the A1 crossing and - from Alnwick to Warkworth - the B3641; B3646 and A1068 between 12.30pm and 2.15pm as the stage passes through Alnwick town centre and takes in the Eisberg Sprint Three Warkworth.
Also fully closed will be the A192, from 2pm until 3pm, to ensure that there are safe places to stand for Cramlington school children.
Following the big finale to stage three at the Monument, stage four of the Tour of Britain will begin on Tuesday, September 10 at Gateshead Quayside and will go on to pass The Angel of the North on its journey south.
