Tour of Britain in Bury: time, route, road closures and where to watch

Get ready Bury as the most prestigious cycling event in Britain is heading your way.

The Tour of Britain is holding its final stage in Greater Manchester - 15 years since it was last in the city - and all 10 boroughs will get to catch a glimpse of the action.

The last day of racing is on Saturday, September 14, and the peloton will begin the 166-kilometre route in Altrincham.

Thousands of people are expected to gather and cheer on the cyclists as they pass through the different areas before in Manchester city centre on Sunday afternoon.

Here's everything you need to know about the Greater Manchester stage as it passes through Bury.

What time does the tour arrive in Bury?

The cyclists are expected to enter Ramsbottom shortly after 1pm.

The route through Ramsbottom will take approximately 20 minutes before it heads out through Hawkshaw and into Bolton.

What is the route in Bury?

After leaving Rochdale through Edenfield, the Tour will travel south along the A56 (Whalley Road) and then enter a fast decent down Peel Brow.

The cyclists will then travel through Ramsbottom town centre along Bridge Street before climbing Rawson's Rake for the King of the Mountain challenge.

Following this they will then travel down Lumb Carr Road where they will then head off through Hawkshaw village and depart the borough towards Edgworth, Bolton.

There are plenty of options when it comes to showing your support for the Tour in Bury.

Bury council suggests that the best viewing spots: Along Whalley Road, Ramsbottom; Ramsbottom town centre; Rawson's Rake, Holcombe Village; Junction at Pot Green/Hare and Hounds Public House and Hawkshaw Village.

Will roads be closed?

A rolling road closure will be in place along the route with cars halted around five to 10 minuted ahead of the competitors arrival.

The closure are also expected to be for a minimal time, around 10-15 minutes.

There will be a full short-term closure at Carr Street, Tanners Street and Rawson's Rake  to make way for the King of the Mountain Challenge from 12 noon until around 2pm.
