Tour of Britain 2019 route: Where to watch the race in Newcastle, Northumberland and North Tyneside

Some of the world's best cyclists will race through the North East on Monday and cycling fans will be able to watch them speed past.

Stage Three of the 2019 Ovo Energy Tour of Britain will run from Northumberland, through North Tyneside before finishing on Newcastle's Grey Street.

Based on the average speed and likely weather conditions, tour organisers have now revealed a timetable showing when riders are expected to arrive at key points in the race.

Stage three of the Tour of Britain will be hosted in the North East on September 9 and residents are encouraged to show their support (Northumberland County Council)

The stage will start from the centre of Berwick-upon-Tweed, crossing the Grade-I listed Berwick Bridge as the race heads along the Tweed Valley and onto Ford and Wooler. 

The route, set to highlight the stunning scenery of the region as it is shown live on television, will continue along the Northumberland coast, including passing Bamburgh and Warkworth castles.

After passing through Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, North Shields and Wallsend, the final kilometres will see the race heading alongside the banks of the River Tyne on the Quayside, before turning on to Grey Street for a challenging uphill city centre finish.

Here are the key expected timings for some of the race highlights:

  • 11:00am    START Berwick - Town Hall, Marygate heading out over Old Bridge
  • 11.43         First King of the Mountain- Ford Common
  • 12:07        Second King of the Mountains - Weetwood Bank, Wooler
  •  12:27       Third King of the Mountains - Lyham Hill,  Belford Moor
  • 12:40         First Sprint - Bamburgh - Seahouses
  • 13:29        Riders approach Alnwick and the castle
  • 13:46        Second Sprint Warkworth 
  • 14:20         Arrive in Morpeth
  • 14:55         Third Sprint Seaton Delaval
  • 15:05         Arrive in Whitley Bay and cycle along the coast
  • 15:09        Arrive in Tynemouth
  • 15:23         Race along Newcastle Quayside
  • 15:35        Riders race back through Grey Street for the FINISH
