The 2026 Tour de France Femmes was down to 138 riders after stage 3 on Monday, with Belgian Dina Boels (Lotto Intermarché) dropping out during the searing 156.5 km stage to Poligny.
The abandon follows a slew of riders dropping out on the first weekend of the race.
Italian rider Laura Tomasi (Uno-X Mobility) was the first rider to abandon the 2026 Tour de France Femmes after crashing on the opening stage which started and finished in Lausanne.
Experienced UAE Team l'Imad rider Brodie Chapman fell ill on the first stage and was unable to begin the second day of racing. Christina Schweinberger was another rider who failed to make the start after breaking her wrist on the opening day. Several other riders failed to finish the second stage in Switzerland.
While a selection of riders will be vying for the special classification jerseys for the overall, mountains, points, and best young rider classifications, many will still be aiming for stage wins and riding in support of their team leaders.
All riders aim to finish the nine-day race, but unfortunately, the reality of bike racing is that they will face turbulence along the way that may cause them to abandon the race altogether.
Riders may abandon a stage mid-race after a crash or illness, climbing into a car or being taken away by ambulance instead of finishing. Others will pull out overnight and not start a new stage in the morning.
Riders can also be taken out of the race by the organisation, either by - 'DNF' means 'did not finish', 'DNS' means 'did not start', 'OTL' means 'outside time limit' and 'DSQ' means 'disqualified'.
