The peloton moves away from the Pyrenees on stage 15 for a transition day as the riders head east from Muret to Carcassonne.
It is not an entirely flat race with around 2,400m of climbing and three categorized ascents along the route; the stage could suit a versatile sprinter.
However, after three days of climbing that finished at Hautacam, Peyragudes and Luchon-Superbagnères, there will be many tired legs in the peloton and very few teams will be willing to commit riders to setting the pace.
This means that the race could open up an opportunity for a large breakaway to go clear and stay away until the finish.
The riders who could benefit from this scenario are among the sprinters like Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek), Tim Merlier (Soudal-QuickStep), and Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty), but also watch for a potential breakaway among riders like Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike) and Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck).
