Tour Championship 2022: Format explained, full field, how to watch, latest odds and prize money for FedEx Cup

The PGA Tour season comes to a conlusion this week as the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings battle it out at the Tour Championship.

As ever it’s East Lake hosting the final play-off event, a no-cut tournament which sees players starting on different scores depending on their position in the standings.

This year there will not be 30 players competing though, with Will Zalatoris forced to withdraw due to a back injury picked up last week at the BMW Championship, and that will also keep him out of next month’s Presidents Cup.

Patrick Cantlay is the defending FedEx Cup champion and is well placed to defend his crown, while Rory McIlroy is just about within range to make a charge at a third title. He starts six shots back, one more than he did when winning in 2019.

When is the Tour Championship

The Tour Championship gets underway on Thursday, August 25, 2022, before the winner is crowned on Sunday evening.

Aaron Wise tees off by himself at 4:45pm BST on Thursday, due to the odd number of players in the field, with Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Cantlay the last pair off at 7:05pm BST in the opening round.

How to watch the Tour Championship

TV channel: The four days will be shown live on Sky Sports Golf, with Sky Sports Main Event also coverage at various points.

Live stream: Sky Sports subscribers can also watch the draw live online via the Sky Go app.

Starting strokes for Tour Championship

Scottie Scheffler, with four wins including the Masters to his name this season, starts at ten-under par this week, moving back to the top of the standings after finishing in a tie for third at the BMW Championship.

Patrick Cantlay is two shots back, though has every reason to be full of confidence after winning last week and securing the FedEx cup title here 12 months ago. Zalatoris was due to start at seven under before his withdrawal, while Cantlay’s good friend Xander Schauffele has a gap of four shots to make up.

Rory McIlroy is on the group at four-under par, as is Open champion Cameron Smith on what looks set to be his final PGA Tour start before he joins the LIV Golf series.

Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas have seven shots to make up on Scheffler over the four rounds, with Jordan Spieth having to come from even further back. Collin Morikawa starts at one-under par, after his collapse in the final round last week as he posted a ten on a par-five.
