Fifteen passengers were injured when a tour bus heading from Bangkok to Phuket overturned in Khirirat Nikhom district of Surat Thani yesterday morning, police said.

The accident occurred at 4.15am at kilometre marker 45 near Ban Khlong Khan in tambon Tham Niap. Uthai Somkantha, 30, the driver, said the double-decker air-conditioned bus left Bangkok for Phuket at 7pm on Saturday with 29 passengers. At Ban Khlong Khan, he lost control of the bus on a sharp bend due to the wet and slippery road, causing the vehicle to tip over and end up on its side.

Fifteen passengers were injured and admitted to Khirirat Nikhom Hospital. Seven were later transferred to Surat Thani Hospital and four to Phuket Hospital.

The other four were released as their injuries were minor.
