Touching tributes paid to cyclist killed on Merseyside road

Tributes have been paid to a cyclist who died after being found lying in a Merseyside road .

Floral bouquets, including one with a message to 'Uncle Paul', have been left on Albert Road in Southport .

The injured 55-year-old was discovered there on Saturday morning.

Ambulance crews found the man near the former Southport Magistrates' Court, close to the roundabout that meets Lord Street and Manchester Road, at 4.25am.

Police believe he had fallen off an electric bike .

He was taken to hospital but later died. Police said his next-of-kin had been informed.

An investigation has been launched into the incident, which police do not believe involved any other vehicles.

Tributes left at the scene include the touching message: "To Uncle Paul, RIP, forever missed, sleep tight."

It is believed members of the public stopped at the scene to help the man and Merseyside Police is keen to speak to anyone with details over what happened to contact the force by calling 101 or via Twitter (@MerPolCC), quoting log number 256 of July 27.
