Touching tributes left near house of 'genuine, kind and smiley' murder victim

Touching tributes have been left on the street where a young man was gunned down in Litherland.

Talented skateboarder Michael Rainsford, who was "never in any trouble" was shot dead in his home on April 7 in a heartbreaking attack.

The 20-year-old, who cared for his disabled mum, has been described by his dad as a "lovely young lad" as tributes pour in for him.

Officers investigating the shooting investigated three males on suspicion of murder in connection with the attack.

Harrington Road, where Mikey was shot, has been covered in flowers since his death.

One of the tributes left read: "To Mikey/Mikey's family,

"One of the most genuine, kind and smiley boys. I can't believe you're gone.

"Wish it wasn't true, still won't sink in. I've had the best couple of years with you, from chilling in Zach's flat, you looking after Ceasar...and having a laugh.

"Going to miss your gorgeous big grin."

An entire lamp post was also covered in flowers for the young man, as well as a balloon and a small ornament.

Another tribute read: "Always in our hearts."

Mr Rainsford Snr spoke to the ECHO to pay a poignant tribute to his "warm, friendly, handsome" son.

He said: "We are devastated and heartbroken.

"He was a lovely young lad, who loved his friends and family, who loved him too.

"He wasn't a loveable rogue - he was a normal young man.

"We are only a small family and can't comprehend why such a thing has happened."

Mikey's family said the 20-year-old was never involved in trouble, and described the killing as "senseless", "needless" and "pointless."

Murder detectives investigating said an arrested 22-year-old man from Seaforth has since been released on conditional bail, while a 17-year-old from Kirkby and a 17-year-old from Netherton currently remain in police custody.
