Touching reason behind Amad celebration after Man Utd star's first senior goal

Scoring your first goal for Manchester United is a memorable achievement for any player, but Amad's celebration after his special moment last Thursday took on an all different meaning.

The 18-year-old netted his first senior goal for the club when he opened the scoring in United's 1-1 draw with AC Milan during the first leg of their Europa League last-16 clash.

Amad raced onto a long, chipped pass through the centre by Bruno Fernandes before flicking a deft header over Milan keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma after 50 minutes.

The youngster then wheeled away in celebration before cupping one hand to his right ear while using the other to cover his left eye.

Fans were left wondering why Amad had produced the unique move, and it has now emerged he did so in memory of late friend Willy Braciano Ta Bi.

Both players were teammates at Atalanta prior to Amad's transfer to Old Trafford having come through the Italian club's academy together.

Braciano Ta Bi sadly lost his battle with liver cancer last month at the tender age of 21.

A report on United's official website explained how Amad's celebration was his own unique way of paying tribute to his fellow Ivorian.

Amad posted pictures of him with the midfielder on his social media accounts soon after his death had been announced.

"Rest in peace, Willy Braciano Ta Bi. Forever in our hearts," he wrote.

Atalanta had confirmed the sad news on February 23, writing in an official statement: "President Antonio Precassi and the whole Atalanta family are deeply saddened by the untimely death of Willy Braciano Ta Bi.

"A cruel destiny interrupted a dream that began with the Nerazzurri shirt in January 2019 too soon.

"He only needed a few months to carve out a leading role in the Primavera and help bring the Scudetto back to Bergamo, but above all to leave a great memory."
