Touching moment ward clerk in recovery from coronavirus is applauded by 'overjoyed' colleagues as she leaves the critical care unit

A ward clerk in recovery from coronavirus was applauded by her colleagues as she left the critical care unit at a hospital in Stockport.

The touching moment was captured in a video filmed at Stepping Hill Hospital.

The footage shows Jeanette Prunty, who has worked as a ward clerk at the hospital for over 11 years, being discharged from ICU.

Her colleagues can be seen cheering and clapping for her as she is moved into the hospital's new high acuity care area.

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust said staff were 'overjoyed' to see their friend Jeanette 'on the road to recovery'.

"Jeanette, a ward clerk on Ward D4 who has been with the trust for over 11 years, had been very poorly with coronavirus but is now ready to leave Critical Care for recovery on our new High Acuity Care Area.

"We all wish Jeanette well on her further recovery."

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust said as of April 22 it had discharged 156 coronavirus patients.

The total number of coronavirus deaths in our region's hospitals now stands at 1,382.

NHS trusts in Greater Manchester today (Monday) confirmed 16 more patients have died in their hospitals, compared to 15 in the previous 24-hour period.

This reflects a general downward trend with a fall in the number of deaths recorded in each of the last five days.

However, experts and politicians say figures must be treated with caution as there are fewer NHS staff working at weekends and so fewer deaths tend to be recorded.
