Touching moment Sir Captain Tom breaks down in tears on Piers Morgan's Life Stories

Sir Captain Tom breaks down in tears while speaking about his grandchildren in a touching moment on Piers Morgan's Life Stories.

Speaking about meeting the legend on Good Morning Britain today, Piers said that Sir Tom had a great sense of humour.

But an incredibly sweet moment also saw the legend tear up on the programme, which will air on ITV at 8pm on Sunday night.

Piers explained that they had interviewed Sir Tom's daughter Hannah and his four grandchildren, who he had moved in with after his wife had tragically died.

"I played him the interviews and I could see that he was really welling up with what the grandkids were saying," he said before playing the clip.

The GMB is seen saying to Sir Captain Tom: "That's got to be pretty good hearing the grandkids talking about you like that."

"I was very fortunate..." Sir Tom began but became too emotional to continue.

Piers picked up on this and said: "It's made you emotional, hasn't it?"

"Yes," Sir Tom replied.

Piers asked why and Sir Tom replied: "Well, I've always said, 'Tomorrow's a good day' and that was a good day when I moved in with them."

"You must be very proud of them," Piers questioned.

"Yes, I am," Sir Tom replied. "I've got four grandchildren and what more can you wish for than that?"
