Touching moment autistic teen helps grandad struggling to breathe

An autistic teenager helped paramedics assist his grandad after he struggled to breathe.

In tonight's episode of BBC's Ambulance, paramedics Kev and Michelle were dispatched to an emergency call for an elderly patient who was struggling to breathe.

The patient’s grandson, Jack, has autism and was very anxious about the presence of the ambulance, so the crew worked to calm him while giving his grandad the emergency care he needed.

Jack is incredibly close to his grandad and spends each weekend with him.

His grandad has cancer so the presence of the ambulance was particularly anxiety inducing for Jack.

But Jack was able to assist the paramedics, who gave him information and instructions, which helped ease his nerves and sense of unease.

Viewers were touched by the heartwarming scenes, as well as the paramedics' compassion for both Jack and his granddad.

They took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

Mel said: "Ah bless him #ambulance that's so sweet if them to include him."

Sara said: "This crew are brilliant with this man's grandson."

Andi praised the "amazing" staff for "turning that situation right round from scary for him to him helping and keeping him reassured".

Dave added: "Bless them letting his grandson to help."
