Touching moment amazing Wigan NHS staff applaud recovering coronavirus patient as he leaves hospital

A recovering coronavirus patient was applauded by staff as he was discharged from a hospital in Wigan.

The moving moment was captured in a video filmed at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.

The footage shows a patient called Dave being discharged from the Winstanley Ward amid cheers and claps from staff wearing PPE.

The Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust posted on its Facebook page: "Our amazing staff lined the corridors this weekend to say farewell to Dave, who has been discharged from Royal Albert Edward Infirmary’s Winstanley Ward and is on his way home.

"We wish him, and everyone battling COVID-19, the very best in their continued recovery."

More than 800 people with coronavirus have now died in Greater Manchester's hospitals.

The data is released by NHS England but some trusts in the region have been sharing their COVID-19 discharge figures.

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust said as of April 15 it had discharged 100 coronavirus patients.
