Touchdown Wire: Texans susceptible to miss playoffs in 2019

The Houston Texans are not a team expected to repeat as postseason qualifiers in 2019.

According to recent predictions from the Touchdown Wire, the Texans are one of six teams that won’t return to the playoffs.

This is where it gets hard. New England is making the playoffs. The Chiefs and Chargers are near the top of the list when it comes to thinking about what teams are the favorites to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. The Colts are going to be the consensus choice to win the AFC South. This isn’t exactly easy, but the Texans could miss the playoffs.

Part of the rationale is the offensive line woes surrounding the team. Author Michael Colangelo doesn’t believe that the porous line, amid the changes with drafting first-round tackle Tytus Howard and second-round pick Max Scharping, are enough, especially given the Indianapolis Colts being juggernauts in the AFC South along with the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars nipping at everyone’s heels.

The X-factor for Houston missing the playoffs is how much time quarterback Deshaun Watson misses. The club is 14-8 when Watson starts compared to 1-9 in the same span when he does not. The franchise quarterback is the catalyst behind the team’s success, and missing the playoffs could be related to his availability.
