Touchdown Wire names Raiders RB Josh Jacobs as team’s most likely MVP candidate

If the Oakland Raiders have any success in 2019, it’s going to be due to Derek Carr and Antonio Brown. Well, that’s at least that is a common belief. But what if the key to the Raiders’ season wasn’t either of those players? What if, Oakland’s chances of making the playoff lies with their rookie running back?

In a recent piece by former NFL scout Matt Williamson of the Touchdown Wire, Jacobs was named the “most likely MVP candidate on the Raiders’ roster. Take a look at Williamson’s thoughts on Jacobs heading into the season:

Antonio Brown would be the easy choice here and Brown is still playing at a remarkably high level. But he is a volatile guy and that situation could get off the rails at the drop of a hat. Jacobs does it all though and Jon Gruden will quickly fall in love with all that this rookie running back can do for Oakland’s offense. While he might not win the MVP, here is betting that Jacobs is the Offensive Rookie of the Year.

For Jacobs to win the NFL MVP, he would need to post historical numbers from the running back position. He would also need the Raiders to be in playoff contention to warrant votes.

While that may be very unlikely, Jacobs is in an incredible situation entering the season. As long as he is healthy, Jacobs could see 300 touches as a rookie playing with Antonio Brown, Tyrell Williams, and Derek Carr. Jacobs should be one of the favorites to win rookie of the year in 2019.
