Touchdown Wire has Texans going tackle in 2019 NFL draft

Anymore, saying the Houston Texans need to address the offensive line in the NFL draft is going beyond redundant. However, it doesn’t detract from the veritas of the statement.

Doug Farrar at Touchdown Wire knows the Texans need help protecting quarterback Deshaun Watson, who took 62 sacks, the most in the NFL, in 2018. Farrar has Houston taking Florida Gators tackle Jawaan Taylor with the 23rd overall pick in the fourth edition of his mock draft.

Last season, the Texans had one of the worst pass-blocking offensive lines in the NFL. Adding Matt Kalil to that unit is like throwing gasoline on a fire in the wrong direction, and if Deshaun Watson is to survive the 2019 season, reinforcements will be needed. Taylor won’t solve all those problems, but he projects nicely as a mashing right tackle or top-flight guard right away.

The only way to get out of the mess the Texans have made on the offensive line is to use valuable resources to fix the problem. If Taylor is a credible enough talent to win a starting job on the offensive line, not take it over de facto due to injury, then it will at least bode well for the direction of the unit in 2019.
