Touchdown Wire gives Seahawks’ draft haul a B grade

With the settled on the 2019 NFL draft, analysts and pundits around the league are issuing their reports cards on each team’s class.

The Seahawks selected a whopping 11 players this year, executing a number of trades after starting the event with just four picks. Seattle addressed a number of needs, including defensive end, in the first round, adding L.J. Collier at No. 29 overall.

“Pete Carroll and John Schneider are going to pick players who fit their paradigms, and they don’t care at all what anyone else thinks,” writes Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar, who gave the Seahawks a B grade. “So, when they took TCU defensive end L.J. Collier with the 29th overall pick, one can look at Collier’s power through the snap and hand use and see what the Seahawks saw. Collier’s athletic limitations are something Carroll will have to work around, but that’s what makes this look like a reach.”

Entering the draft with no second-round selections, Seahawks general manager John Schneider finagled two picks in the round when all was said and done.

“Second-round safety Marquise Blair out of Utah is an undersized enforcer, and the Seahawks had to be amazed that Mississippi receiver D.K. Metcalf was still on the board with the final pick in the second round,” Farrar continues. “Metcalf adds downfield speed and contested-catch ability this offense didn’t have.”

After more trades and stockpiling picks, Seattle was busy on Saturday, snagging seven more players on the final day.

“Of the later picks, watch out for Oregon defensive back Ugo Amadi, who can play safety and slot and was a turnover machine in college,” Farrar concludes.
