'Touch my car again and I'll run you over' - Irish taxi driver and cyclist in furious row

A video has emerged online of a vicious argument between a cyclist and a driver in Cork in recent days.

In the two-minute clip, shared numerous times on social media, a cyclist’s camera records his approach to a taxi that is taking up part of the cycle lane.

The cyclist taps the back of the taxi with his hand, to gesture for the car to move over, which enrages the man behind the wheel.

The taxi is then heard beeping as the cyclist stops and says: “Could you get off the cycle lane.”

The taxi man tells the cyclist that if he touches his car again "I will run you over,” before adding "if you do that again I'll get out and I'll knock your head in.”

The cyclist says he will go to the guards with his threats and moves off on his way for a few hundred meters before the taxi nearly knocks him off his bike further up the road.

The taxi man opens his door and grabs a hold of the bike before the cyclist can be heard asking him to “let go.”

The incident has sparked a debate online around the issues between drivers and cyclists on Irish roads, and it has left people divided.

One person took to Twitter in defence of the man on a bike and said: “This guy needs to be taken off the road permanently.”

A second wrote: “So sorry that you have had to deal with that sh*t! Cork's finest indeed. Stay safe!”

However, others seemed to jump on the side of the driver, with one person saying: “Both behaved badly, last clip you weren't in a cycle lane, you weaved in and out of traffic.”

Another said: “You had no right to hit his car. You give cyclists a bad name. Cyclists do things that motorists let go without reacting to them.

“If everyone went around fault-finding other people we would live in a very bickering world. You could have just cycled on but chose to hit a car.”
