Tottenham youngster Troy Parrott told to 'get in the first team' before earning senior Ireland debut

Tottenham youngster Troy Parrott has been told to "get in the first team" and earn a senior call up for Ireland.

The 17-year-old scored the winner for Ireland's Under-21 side on Friday night before a further two more goals in Tuesday's win over Sweden.

Following the departures of Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente over the summer, Parrott is considered a part of Mauricio Pochettino's first-team squad at Tottenham but is yet to make his senior debut.

Ireland head coach Mick McCarthy has now told Parrott to get some first-team action with Spurs under his belt before earning a call up to his squad.

"Get in the first team", McCarthy said when asked what Parrot must do.

"You do realise that the U21s and the U23s where he's playing is far-removed from where we are playing, don't you? There's a huge difference.

"If I think he's right, I'll take him. We'll try and get him watched."

He added: "If somebody makes you a substitute and you come on a do that, deliver that kind of performance, that's what it's all about. He's a good kid and I am excited by him."
