Tottenham XI vs Newcastle: Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Premier League today

Tottenham’s preparations for their trip to Newcastle looked to have been disrupted after two of their players tested positive for Covid.

However, the club issued a statement on Sunday afternoon announcing that those results had been deemed false-positives, meaning the players in question - who have not been identified - are free to feature this afternoon.

Nuno Espirito Santo has decided that Emerson Royal and Cristian Romero, both of whom only returned from international duty in South America on Friday, are ready to start.

Steven Bergwijn is back in the squad. The forward, who has started this season well, has not played since September 16 due to an ankle issue.

“He joined us yesterday. He is totally integrated with the group. Trained well yesterday, trained well today - no pain,” said Nuno Espirito Santo.

“So it is about getting back to his highest levels of fitness, but he is on the process of it. We don’t know [if he can play against Newcastle], because first of all we have to have everybody together. Then we will assess and prepare and decide.”

Spurs starting XI (4-3-3): Lloris, Emerson Royal, Romero, Dier, Reguilon, Nbombele, Hojbjerg, Skipp, Lucas, Son, Kane.

Where: St. James’ Park

When: Sunday, October 17, 16:30

TV: Sky Sports

Spurs squad from: Lloris, Gollini, Austin, Doherty, Royal, Tanganga, Davies, Reguilon, Rodon, Romero, Sanchez, Dier, Winks, John, White, Ndombele, Dele, Lo Celso, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Lucas, Clarke, Markanday, Son, Gil, Kane, Scarlett.
