Tottenham won’t punish Serge Aurier over arrest

Tottenham do not plan to take action against Serge Aurier after the defender missed the defeat by Man Utd following his arrest on suspicion of assault.

Aurier was released without charge on Sunday morning , hours before Spurs’ 1-0 loss at Wembley . Police were called to the defender’s Hertfordshire residence, where he lives with his partner, Hencha Voigt, and arrested him on suspicion of actual bodily harm.

Aurier vehemently denied assaulting the reality TV star and, having spoken to the Ivory Coast international, Spurs believe the matter is now closed. “A club spokesman said: “We are aware of an incident concerning Serge Aurier this weekend. The player was released without charge.”

A statement from Hertfordshire Police added: “A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of ABH. He has been released with no further action.”

Aurier was signed by Tottenham from Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the 2017-18 season. He has battled with Kieran Trippier for the right-back spot following the departure of Kyle Walker to Manchester City.

Aurier’s arrival was designed to bring top-level European experience to the Tottenham squad, after he had been involved in numerous high-profile matches with PSG.

He made 24 appearances in his first campaign and has featured 12 times this term.
