Tottenham 'want Ajax's Donny van de Beek' if Christian Eriksen makes Real Madrid transfer

Tottenham have already begun planning for life without Christian Eriksen, and are said to be targeting a player who caused them a number of problems in their last Champions League match.

It is rumoured that Donny van de Beek, who has impressed for Ajax all season, is top of their wishlist, with the Spurs hierarchy particularly impressed with the 22-year-old's performance during the Dutch club's 1-0 win over Tottenham last month.

They have been quoted a price of around £45m to sign the player, although they are likely to face competition from other high-profile clubs, with the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich also linked with a move.

It also remains to be seen if van de Beek would want to leave the club, especially if they go on to win Europe's elite prize against all odds this season.

He came through the academy at Ajax and has particularly shone in this campaign, making 50 appearances in all competitions and putting in impressive performances against the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus .

Spurs are apparently resigned to losing their Danish playmaker Eriksen, who fans believe has been under par this season, possibly because his head has been turned.

Madrid have been linked with the 27-year-old for some time, and with Eriksen's contract set to expire next summer, Spurs are thought to be keen on cashing in on the player while they still can.

Manager Zinedine Zidane sees Eriksen as a potential replacement for an ageing Luka Modric, although Madrid are wary of negotiating with chairman Daniel Levy, who they have had issues with in the past.

It is set to be a busy summer at the club, with manager Mauricio Pochettino admitting he is prepared for a big rebuild of the team.

Despite reaching the Champions League semi-finals Spurs have at times flattered to deceive in the league, and have lost four of their last five games in all competitions.
