Tottenham wait on FA ban decisions on Harry Kane and Mauricio Pochettino ahead of Arsenal clash

Tottenham were on Thursday morning waiting to discover if Harry Kane will be banned for clashing with Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta on Wednesday night.

Kane leaned his forehead into the Spaniard as tempers flared in Chelsea's 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

No action was taken by Andre Marriner and the Football Association are expecting the referee's report this afternoon. If Marriner reveals he missed the incident, it could be review by a three-man independent panel of former officials who may decide to hit Kane with a three-match ban for violent conduct.

But Mauricio Pochettino is expected to avoid a touchline ban in Saturday's north London derby against Arsenal.

Spurs have until 6pm on Thursday evening to respond to the FA after Pochettino was charged with improper conduct for his confrontation with referee Mike Dean following Saturday's defeat at Burnley.

The Spurs manager has said he will accept the charge but if, as expected, Spurs formally respond on Thursday afternoon, there is unlikely to be enough time to convene an independent panel and decide the Argentine's fate before the lunchtime clash with Arsenal.

Any ban is more likely for his return to Southampton on Saturday week.
