Tottenham vs West Ham LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and fan reaction

Tottenham vs West Ham LIVE - (Action Images via Reuters)

Tottenham vs West Ham LIVE

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank is facing serious questions over his future after a 2-1 home defeat by West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday. Tottenham have won twice in 11 home Premier League games this season, losing six, and with his team in 14th place he is now fighting to keep his job.

Tottenham trailed to a 15th-minute goal by Crysencio Summerville but after Cristian Romero headed an equaliser it looked as though they would go on to take three points. But Callum Wilson scrambled in a late winner for 18th-placed West Ham to boost their survival chances.

Once again Tottenham left the field to boos from their fans and they will have to recover quickly as they face Borussia Dortmund at home in a crucial Champions League game on Tuesday. Read the game back below with our dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from Sam Tabuteau at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This feels terminal for Thomas Frank. This afternoon simply had to deliver three points and yet it is West Ham who come away with the victory.

Spurs fans were practicing their boos before the half-time whistle, that is how bad it has been for Thomas Frank's men.

West Ham, to their credit, have stuck two up top and gone for it. Spurs, though, let them into the game after a positive start and have not recovered since.

Half-time

15:53 , Alex Young

54min: That was absolutely honking from Spurs. Arguably their worst half of the season.

Many boos from the home fans.

Tottenham 0-1 West Ham

15:52 , Alex Young

51min: Kolo Muani hooks an aimless cross into the box, it falls to Tel to swing a leg at... and his shot bounces harmlessly wide.

Miserable from the hosts.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:50 , Alex Young

The boos at half-time will reach another level if Spurs can't find an equaliser.

They have been hopeless in possession and made West Ham look unbeatable in attack. No one in a Spurs shirt can get to grips with Summerville right now.

Tottenham 0-1 West Ham

15:49 , Alex Young

49min: Romero slides in and blocks Summerville.

Spurs desperately need half-time.

Tottenham 0-1 West Ham

15:47 , Alex Young

46min: Eight minutes added on.

Tottenham 0-1 West Ham

15:45 , Alex Young

44min: A tame header at goal from Gallagher after a Gray cross.

West Ham are very comfortable. Spurs must do something at half-time.

HUGE SAVE!

15:42 , Alex Young

41min: Vicario at full stretch to deny a Taty header.

Frank motionless on the touchline as half-time approaches. West Ham should be out of sight.

Tottenham 0-1 West Ham

15:40 , Alex Young

39min: Gray booked for a late tackle on Summerville. It has been coming.

Spurs are so stretched in midfield.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:39 , Alex Young

Tottenham get away with one. Vicario makes an excellent save before Bowen scores on the rebound.

The offside flag rightly denies him, but another warning sign for Thomas Frank's men. The groans are increasing here.

NO GOAL!

15:37 , Alex Young

36min: West Ham have the ball in the back of the net again, but Bowen is offside when tucking home a rebound.

Clearly off, but huge concerns for Spurs.

Tottenham 0-1 West Ham

15:33 , Alex Young

32min: Fernandes is now down and needs treatment after a tough tackle from Gray.

Also looks to be bleeding from the nose.

Tottenham 0-1 West Ham

15:30 , Alex Young

Tottenham 0-1 West Ham

26min: Taty now misses from a yard out. Somehow.

Spurs need to get their act together fast.

Tottenham 0-1 West Ham

15:26 , Alex Young

24min: How have Spurs not scored?!

Tel’s cross is almost nodded in by Kolo Muani, it’s scrambled away and then Spence is denied on the line by Areola!

Tottenham 0-1 West Ham

15:23 , Alex Young

22min: Simons has a look for a pass into the area, but there’s nothing going, so has a pop himself and finds the stands.

Tottenham 0-1 West Ham

15:22 , Alex Young

21min: Tel thinks he is fouled when running through on goal, but the referee isn’t interested.

Tottenham 0-1 West Ham

15:19 , Alex Young

18min: Spence is coming on.

That looks like a nasty injury for Davies. What a shame.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:18 , Alex Young

What did I say.

Spurs have let West Ham into the game and the visitors have struck the opening goal. Lovely work from Summerville to come inside and find the shot, but with plenty of Spurs defenders covering it is far too easy for the Dutch winger.

To make matters worse Ben Davies is down and in a lot of pain.

(Action Images via Reuters)

Tottenham 0-1 West Ham

15:17 , Alex Young

16min: Concern for Spurs as Davies has stayed down after the goal. A stretcher is being brought out.

Spence and Udogie are on the bench.

GOAL!

15:16 , Alex Young

15min: That was much better!

It's been all Spurs in the opening stages, but Summerville fires home the opener via a big deflection!

Porro far too easily beaten, and then the shot deflects off Van de Ven.

Tottenham 0-0 West Ham

15:15 , Alex Young

14min: First sight of goal for West Ham as Taty tries to hook a shot, but it spins wide.

Tottenham 0-0 West Ham

15:13 , Alex Young

12min: You can see why Gallagher is nicknamed ‘The Pitbull’. He is flying into challenges, and not always getting the ball.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:11 , Alex Young

A really energetic start from Tottenham, but we have been here before.

Spurs need to make it count. It has been a tale of two halves too frequently this season.

Tottenham 0-0 West Ham

15:09 , Alex Young

9min: Tel takes, West Ham hoof it clear.

Tottenham 0-0 West Ham

15:08 , Alex Young

8min: Spurs win an early corner off Fernandes. West Ham have been dreadful defending corners this season.

Tottenham 0-0 West Ham

15:06 , Alex Young

6min: It’s been a positive start for Spurs.

Tottenham 0-0 West Ham

15:05 , Alex Young

4min: Tel should do better!

Odobert’s scuffed shot lands at Tel’s feet inside the area, but he swings a leg at it and his shot spins over.

Tottenham 0-0 West Ham

15:03 , Alex Young

2min: Taty is now booked after a little over one minute for asking for Gallagher to be booked. You can’t do that these days.

Sam Tabuteau at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:01 , Alex Young

Gallagher has flown into two challenges inside 15 seconds and is now receiving treatment for a head injury. That is one way to endear yourself to the fans.

A massive cheer rings out as Conor Gallagher's name is called out.

He may not be the answer to all Spurs' problems right now, but he has certainly provided some fresh impetus, with Thomas Frank desperately in need of a performance this afternoon.

Need to stop the rot

14:48 , Alex Young

Back to on-field matters, this really is a derby like few others between these two teams.

Spurs have won just two of their 10 home games this sesaon, which is their worst record at this stage of a league campaign.

It is even worse for West Ham, who are winless in their last 10 league games.

Change for Tottenham protest

Can Vinai fix toxic Tottenham?

13:15 , Alex Young

The big read in this week’s paper focused on the situation at Tottenham.

When all around you appears to be crumbling and signs of improvement are in short supply, what do you cling to? Vinai Venkatesham, if you are Thomas Frank.

The Tottenham boss is putting his faith in the chief executive’s experiences at Arsenal in the early days of Mikel Arteta’s reign.

“He knows how unfortunately it can take time to get up to where good should look like,” Frank said. “That’s definitely beneficial because also he understands the journey we’re on.”

However, Arteta won the FA Cup in his first season and Arsenal at their very lowest ebb finished eighth.

The club captain was not taking potshots at the hierarchy on Instagram, nor were the players clashing with — or in Micky van de Ven’s case seemingly offering out — the fans so publicly.

Nor, from memory, did Venkatesham, below, have to ponder why exactly Arteta strolled onto the pitch before a match drinking an espresso from a cup emblazoned with Tottenham branding.

Barely six months on from the euphoria of the Europa League success, Tottenham have descended into toxic turmoil. Supporters will protest against the board on Saturday, the first such action taken since Daniel Levy’s exit.

Frank’s position has naturally been questioned but Venkatesham is faced with problems that a managerial change alone will not solve.

Venkatesham’s boardroom role in helping transform the culture at Arsenal on and off the pitch was incredibly impressive. Doing something similar on the other side of north London would undoubtedly be his greatest achievement yet.

Change for Tottenham protest ahead of kick-off

13:05 , Alex Young

Tottenham fans are planning another protest ahead of today’s game, starting at 2pm.

Supporters’ group Change For Tottenham are taking action amid frustrations over the way the club is being run, including transfer strategy, injury problems, recent results and high ticket prices.

Spurs are 14th in the Premier League, were knocked out of the FA Cup by Aston Villa last week despite the Lewis family launching a new era seeking “more wins, more often”.

The protest comes after the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust (THST) released a statement to hit out at the direction of the club and a “dramatic fall in ambition”.

Score prediction

12:55 , Alex Young

These being two teams with just a win apiece from their last five outings in all competitions indicates how much could rest on the result here for both Frank and Nuno.

Spurs at least won in the Premier League just shortly after Christmas, whereas West Ham are winless in 10 league games. The Hammers have also won just one of their last eight league meetings against Spurs (D3 L4), a 2-1 victory on enemy soil in December 2023, and have been defeated in all six of their Premier League London derbies this season.

Despite winning only four of their most recent 24 Premier League home games (D6 L14), Spurs should have enough quality in their squad - particularly with the arrival of Gallagher helping boost Frank’s injury-hit midfield, and the return of skipper Romero to the backline - to ensure a third home victory of the campaign happens here.

It may not be by quite the same margin as September’s 3-0 rout at the London Stadium, though, given their opponents’ recent attacking reinforcements and the fact that West Ham played most of the second half of that game with 10 men.

Tottenham to win, 2-1.

Early West Ham team news

12:47 , Alex Young

As for West Ham, there is an expectation that midfielder Mateus Fernandes should recover in time to feature against Spurs after missing the FA Cup victory over Queens Park Rangers at the weekend. If he does so, he could partner Tomas Soucek and/or Soungoutou Magassa in the middle of the park.

Argentine striker Taty Castellanos, a new £26million signing from Lazio, netted the extra-time winner in that game, during which Crysencio Summerville scored and was a bright spark, suggesting the Dutch winger should start once more as he hunts for a first league goal of the campaign.

Castellanos will expect to retain his spot too, having led the line in successive matches since his arrival, though Pablo Felipe - recently brought in from Gil Vicente - is another option.

Early Tottenham team news

12:39 , Alex Young

Conor Gallagher could make a quick Tottenham debut against West Ham today, though Spurs have been hit by another key injury blow.

Richarlison has been sidelined for the next seven weeks due to a hamstring injury, and joins Mohammed Kudus, Rodrigo Bentancur, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison on the sidelines.

Gallagher could come straight in for Bentancur at the heart of midfield, and Frank has also been boosted by the returns of Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie.

Solanke, who has been out since August with a recurring ankle injury, came off the bench as Spurs crashed out of the FA Cup.

Udogie was also named on the bench for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury at the start of December. Cristian Romero returns from suspension.

Yves Bissouma has returned to the club and is available for selection after Mali’s elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 29-year-old has, however, yet to play a competitive game under Frank, owing to injury and disciplinary issues. Pape Matar Sarr is still at AFCON with Senegal.

Tottenham chief makes transfer promise in open letter to fans

12:35 , Alex Young

Tottenham chief executive Vinai Venkatesham has penned an open letter to supporters ahead of Saturday’s Premier League derby against West Ham.

Fans’ frustrations have reached boiling point, with a protest against the club’s board set to take place before kick-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Conscious of rising discontent among supporters, Venkatesham has written a lengthy and detailed response to their concerns in the club’s matchday programme, in which he addressed, among other things, the relationship between the club and the fans, wage structure and transfers.

“Dear supporters, as we reach the halfway point of our season, I wanted to share an update on our plans for the future,” the letter read.
