Tottenham vs Watford - The ideal fixture for Spurs or Mauricio Pochettino's worst nightmare?

Tottenham fans can rejoice as Premier League football finally returns on Saturday as Watford make the short trip to north London.

It has not been a good start to the season at all for the Lilywhites and their dismal opening hit a new low last time out when they lost 3-0 to Brighton.

Mauricio Pochettino's team were comfortably beaten at the Amex and they were quite lucky to have left having only conceded the three.

The international break probably did come at the right time and now they have the chance to get back on track when the Hornets visit Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The ideal game on paper given Quique Sanchez Flores' team have yet to win in their opening eight Premier League games of the season, it is a fixture with all the hallmarks of a potential banana skin for the team.

Wenger: Pochettino needs to show he can give more to Tottenham

Reaching the FA Cup final back in May after finishing eighth in the league under the guidance of Javi Gracia, the Spaniard unfortunately lost his job in September after their poor form from the end of last campaign carried into the new one.

Currently four points adrift of safety as things stand at present, the Hornets can count themselves very unlucky not to have at least one win on the board so far after their good showing against Arsenal.

Trailing 2-0 at the break courtesy of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's double, Watford restored parity in the 81st minute courtesy of Roberto Pereyra's penalty but they couldn't find a third despite having 31 shots in the match compared to Arsenal's seven.

However, they were brought back down to earth with an almighty bang six days later as Man City hit them for eight at the Etihad.

While they do need to register a win sooner rather than later before they are handed an uphill task to survive, Watford will go into the game against Spurs with no pressure on them at all given it will be the hosts expected to collect all three points.

This could work in their favour and the game will not be as straightforward as it seems on paper, thus meaning it could potentially turn into a bit of a nightmare for Pochettino and his squad.

The games between the two have been rather tight over the past two seasons, with Tottenham needing two goals in the final 10 minutes back in January to win 2-1 after falling to a defeat by the same scoreline in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

Spurs will get back to winning ways on Saturday if they play at their best, but if they are far from the top of their game and then their woeful start to the season could continue for another week.

Underestimate Watford at your peril.
