Tottenham vs Reading second half player ratings: Erik Lamela scores sublime free-kick in win

Joe Hart

Never stops talking and instructing, but barely touched the ball during his half an hour on the pitch. 5

Serge Aurier

Did his defensive duties and wasn't called upon much to go forward. 6

Cameron Carter-Vickers

Was unfortunate with the handball that gave Reading their penalty. Dealt with everything else well until that point. 6

Toby Alderweireld

Made a great sliding tackle on 62 minutes to stop what would likely have been a Reading goal. Another 90 minutes for him. 7

Ryan Sessegnon

Got a run at left-back before Cirkin's arrival and then switched into a more attacking role but made little impact. 5

Moussa Sissoko

Got 40 minutes under his belt before heading straight off down the tunnel when substituted with five minutes to go. It was a quiet performance by his usual energetic standards. 6

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Looks very confident already in the middle and he grew as the game wore on, constantly pressing, passing and talking to his team-mates. Setting himself up already as a certain starter when the Premier League begins. 7

Dele Alli

After his excellent first half he only got 16 minutes of the second half before coming off. Continued to work hard but had a couple of sloppy passes and didn't have as much of an impact in those few second half minutes. 6

Erik Lamela

Curled home an impudent free-kick just six minutes into the second half. As always battled away and show some nice flicks and passes in a fragmented second half. 7

Steven Bergwijn

Raided down the left a couple of times early in the half and looked dangerous before also leaving the pitch on 61 minutes. 6

Son Heung-min

Earned the early free-kick that Lamela curled home but didn't see much of the ball after that as Spurs struggled to recreate their attacking threat from the first half. He was excellent in the first half but didn't get the service in the second. 6

Subs

Jack Clarke

A willing runner but didn't see much of the ball during his half hour or so. 5

Dennis Cirkin

Did a solid job at left-back and will be hoping he might start against Birmingham. 6

Paulo Gazzaniga

Made a flying save only for Reading to be awarded a penalty after Carter-Vickers' handball and that spot kick was too powerful for him. 6

Jamie Bowden

Came on late on for Hojbjerg and used the ball well in the centre of the park and pressed as the Dane had. 6

Dane Scarlett

The England U16 striker replaced Son late in the game but struggled for service. N/A

Alfie Devine

The summer signing from Wigan replaced Sissoko for the final minutes. N/A
