Tottenham vs PSV, Champions League: Harry Kane's late heroics secure comeback win
Harry Kane was the familiar hero as his two late goals earned Tottenham a 2-1 win over PSV and kept their Champions League hopes alive.
Spurs’ faltering Group B campaign looked like hitting a new low after Luuk de Jong put the Dutch side ahead after only a minute at Wembley, which left Mauricio Pochettino‘s men on the brink of being knocked out.
But Kane stood up when it mattered to rescue his side, equalising in the 78th minute and then being the beneficiary of an extremely kind deflection 11 minutes later to complete the turnaround.
The win, Spurs’ first of the group stage, leaves them in third place, three points behind Inter Milan, who visit Wembley in three weeks.
They will need to win that game and will have to be more clinical than they were against PSV, who should have been put to bed long before Kane’s late heroics.
Tottenham need to win tonight to keep their hopes of a last 16 place alive. Anything less will effectively see them out of the Champions League. With that in mind Spurs get the match underway and boot it forward looking for an oncoming Dele Alli.
PSV win a corner and it's delivered into the centre of the box. De Jong loses Dele Alli storms into the box and puts his header into the bottom corner.
Aurier beats two defenders as he cuts inside from the right wing, he tries to get the ball into the box but smashes it long. That's not the kind of end ball you want when you're chasing the game.
Harry Kane this time collects the ball in the area and wins a corner.
Davies combines with Son on the left wing to deliver a cross into the box. He tries to find Harry Kane but Viergeverheads the ball clear. Tottenham have seen more of the possession with PSV happy to counter attack.
PSV win a couple of corners but offer no real threat from them. Lucas Moura Brings the ball back up the pitch for Spurs before PSV force them to retreat.
Harry Kane gets the ball about 20 yards out from goal, he turns puts the ball on his right foot and hits it... Zoet dives to his left and makes the save.
Lucas Moura makes an incredible run, he recieves the ball on the wide left and runs it all the way into the box, Viergever makes a desperate tackle on the 6-yard box to displace the ball and by the time Moura recovers he can only boot it straight at Zoet.
Spurs work their way in behind the PSV defence, Dele Alli sends Eriksen into the box and his shot is saved by Zoet. Alli gets the rebound and Zoet recovers in time to save that shot as well!
Davies wins a corner for Tottenham. Eriksen puts it in but Pereiro clears it away. Tottenham continue the pressure but putting the ball into the penalty are but PSV clear it every time.
Spurs have totally dominated this game, PSV have had one shot and scored one goal, but sometimes that's all you need. Dele Alli gets the ball in the box as it's delivered over the top and once again Zoet makes a great save.
Davies makes a late challenge and PSV get a free kick. They boot it long and win a throw in. PSV will be very happy with this first half, they've gone in front and held on through a barrage of attacking play from Spurs.
Moura's been moved to the right side but he comes inside with the ball and gives it to Davies. Space opens up for the left back and he sends it wide of the goal.
