Tottenham vs Newcastle player ratings: Harry Kane fluffs lines after early Joelinton goal

Newcastle United stunned Tottenham Hotspur in north London to register their first win of the Steve Bruce era.

Spurs started sluggishly and the visitors took full advantage. Summer signing Joelinton got in behind the Tottenham defence and calmly slotted past Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham, never at their best, piled on the pressure in the second-half and can feel aggrieved that both Mike Dean and the Video Assistant Referee declined to award them a penalty when Jamaal Lascelles appeared to bring down Harry Kane in the box.

And then, as time ran out, Lucas Moura blazed horribly over from point-blank range when picked out by second-half substitute Christian Eriksen.

The shock defeat means Tottenham, last season’s Champions League finalists, have won just one of their opening three matches of the new campaign. Here are our player ratings.
