Tottenham vs Newcastle betting preview: Harry Kane and Lucas Moura to do the damage

Don't mention the VAR - unless you are a Tottenham fan at least.

For the second time in a matter of fans, Pochettino's side have been saved from the depths of despair by VAR and yet it remains controversial to this nearly a week on.

Nevertheless, it's a joyous moment for Spurs as they grab a draw away to City which could prove crucial as the seasons pans out.

Ahead of this weekend's match at home to Newcastle on Sunday (August 25) we spoke to the one and only Alasdair Gold on the north London side's prospects against Steve Bruce's side.

Win, lose or draw?

I'm going for a Spurs win. They got off the hook against City but the boost from that result and the players getting fitter and fitter means they'll soon be approaching the level Pochettino wants them at. Newcastle are a team in flux right now and Tottenham should put them to the sword.

Which is why Spurs are priced at 1/4 with thepools.com .

Who's a good bet for 1st scorer?

There's the obvious candidate in Harry Kane who struggled for service against City and will be desperate to get back to scoring ways against Newcastle. Lucas Moura though could also be a good bet as he is likely to start after his leveller at the Etihad Stadium and he has been finding the net regularly in pre-season.

A decent service against an underperforming Newcastle defence makes the 2/1 first goalscorer odds on Kane an attractive possibility.

Meanwhile, Lucas Moura is 7/2 .

Who's on the naughty step? (first card)

For Spurs, Harry Winks will get stuck in early on in his battle with Jonjo Shelvey so could be an early candidate for the book.

A decent battle in midfield and with Newcastle's weak defence at the moment could see a few hotheads get into the referee's book with thepools.com offering evens for over 4 bookings in the match.

Who's on pens?

Harry Kane is the man for that, every day of the week.

Again, that 2/1 offering could be a good one this weekend.

Will your team keep a clean sheet?

Spurs haven't kept one in their first two games but Newcastle don't look like a side full of goals this season. This could be Hugo Lloris' first of the campaign.

A Spurs clean sheet is going at 7/10 with thepools.com .
