Tottenham vs Manchester United LIVE!
Tottenham have been crowned this season’s Europa League winners after beating Manchester United in an all-English final. Whilst it has been a Premier League campaign to forget for Spurs, their supporters will not care one bit thanks watching their heroes clinch silverware on the European stage.
Spurs have, arguably, saved their best performances of the season for the Europa League knockout phase and did so again in Bilbao. Brennan Johnson’s scrappy goal late in the first-half proved to be the difference as the north London outfit defended resolutely, a magnificent goalline clearance from Micky van de Ven played a big part, to end their 17-year wait for a major trophy.
A massive win for Tottenham who not only get their hands on European silverware, but qualification for next season's Champions League is the additional reward for Ange Postecoglou as he delivers his promise of winning a trophy in his second season. Tottenham player ratings
Wednesday 21 May 2025 22:12 , Tashan Deniran-AlleynePedro Porro 7
His delivery from open play and set pieces was always a threat in a game conscipuously lacking good technicians.
Cristian Romero 8
Outstanding in another final, sweeping up United’s attacks and setting the tone with his aggression. He was lucky, though, that Bruno Fernandes headed wide after he was drawn out of defence in the second half.
Micky van de Ven 9
Saved a certain goal when he leapt to clear Hojlund’s header from the goal-line. Composed and commanding at the back again.

Wednesday 21 May 2025 21:38 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneHere comes Kevin Danso for Johnson, signalling the move to a back five with 13 minutes plus stoppages to play. This could not be further from the ideals of Ange-ball but, again, no-one associated with Spurs will give two hoots if it stays like this.

Wednesday 21 May 2025 21:29 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneRicharlison has been excellent as an attritional presence down the left for Spurs, justifying his selection ahead of Son. Now the captain will have 25 minutes to try to stretch United and perhaps help put this game to bed.
Tottenham 1-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 21:28 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne68 min: WHAT A CLEARANCE
Acrobatic stuff from van de Ven as he makes a brilliant clearance on the goal-line to prevent Hojlund equalising.

Tottenham 1-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 21:24 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne65 min: Tell you what, Richarlison is putting in a defensive shift tonight. Great tracking back against Amad, and his clearance gets Spurs up the pitch.
Looks as though the Brazilian has run himself into the ground as he lays on the turf.
Tottenham 1-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 21:22 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne63 min: Dorgu slides in on Johnson who thinks he’s earned a free-kick. Referee awards a goal-kick and the Spurs winger is fuming.

Then on the counter-attack, Udogie overhits a pass to Solanke.

Dan Kilpatrick at San Mames
Wednesday 21 May 2025 21:15 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneThe quality has not changed whatsoever since the restart but that will not bother Spurs. Romero and van de Ven look comfortable and commanding back there, so Postecoglou's side should be confident that they can protect this lead.
Tottenham 1-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 21:14 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne55 min: It is not clicking for Man Utd in attack. You would imagine Mount and Hojlund are at risk of being replaced if they don’t improve in the next 5-10 minutes.
Tottenham 1-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 21:10 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne50 min: Interesting confrontation between Maguire and Romero following a Man Utd free-kick.

Wednesday 21 May 2025 21:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne48 min: Amad flicks a ball into the box, but Hojlund can’t adjust his body and his header doesn’t trouble Vicario. Difficult one that for the Man Utd striker.
Tottenham 1-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 21:06 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne46 min: Early stoppage in the second half after a clash of heads between Romero and Sarr. The former is knocked down but gets back to his feet and the game continues.

First-half highlights
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:56 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneHere is the goal that separates Tottenham and Manchester United in the 2025 Europa League final.
It looks like the final touch is Luke Shaw’s but credit must go to Brennan Johnson’s run to the front post.
FIRST BLOOD SPURS! ⚽️

It's scrappy but they won't care! Brennan Johnson claims it as he takes full advantage of carnage in the box to put Spurs ahead in the Europa League Final 🤩

Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:50 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneHT, 1-0
Spurs have a lead and now the onus will be on United to break down a very compact and disciplined defensive unit, built around van de Ven and Romero, both of whom have been excellent again.
It's been a poor half but no-one associated with Spurs will care one bit as it stands.
HALF-TIME
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:49 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneTottenham 1-0 Manchester United
Spurs have got the lead at the break thanks to Brennan Johnson’s goal late in the first-half.
Dan Kilpatrick at San Mames
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:47 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneThere is onus on Sarr to make up some of the creative burden from the absence of Maddison and Kulusevski, and he delivered there with an inviting cross.
The last touch appeared to be off Shaw's arm (which is in keeping with the quality of this game) but Johnson deserves credit for getting in at the front post, which is such a skill of his.
GOAL! Tottenham 1-0 Manchester United | Brennan Johnson '42
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:44 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne42 min: GOALLLL
Spurs strike first in the Europa League final and it's Brennan Johnson with the goal!
It’s scrappy but Spurs will not care, looks like it could go down as a Luke Shaw own-goal.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:42 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne39 min: Amad cuts in and shoots but his effort is tame. Vicario collects.
Credit to Richarilson for taking the sting out of the shot.
Dan Kilpatrick at San Mames
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:41 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneSome of the early tension and energy has dissipated amid a series of niggling fouls and stoppages for injuries. To be honest, it's a low-quality game that probably needs someone -- and I think Diallo, Fernandes and Porro are the obvious contenders -- to make something happen.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne38 min: Bit fortunate for Yoro there. He wanted Onana to come for the ball but the keeper stayed on his line.
Frenchman shows great confidence to try and play his way out of trouble but gets caught in possession by Sarr. Luckily the ball runs kindly for Onana.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:36 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne34 min: Amad clearly pulls the shirt of Udogie and eventually is shown a yellow card. Think Richarlison’s plea to the referee played a huge role in that decision.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne33 min: Bissouma wants a free-kick after being caught by Mazraoui but the referee waves play on. The Spurs midfielder is still down but slowly gets back to his feet.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:32 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne30 min: Romero is down on the turf after being caught by the elbow of Hojlund. Spurs skipper is fine to continue, though.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:31 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne29 min: Dorgu needlessly concedes a corner, he had so much time to nudge the ball back to Onana. No damage is done as United clear their lines.
At the other end, Amad twist and turns before sending a ball into the box which Johnson deals with.
Dan Kilpatrick at San Mames
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:28 , Tashan Deniran-AlleynePerhaps we shouldn't be surprised but neither team is displaying much in the way of quality or composure. The exception thus far has been Diallo, who looks a threat down United's right.
Porro's set pieces look likely to be a big factor for Spurs, especially given the lack of natural creativity in their front six.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:27 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne25 min: The closest Man Utd have come to scoring tonight.

Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:23 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne21 min: Amad slips in Fernandes down the right but the Man Utd captain’s effort is comfortably dealt with by Vicario.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:22 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne20 min: United just enjoying a bit of possession for the first time tonight.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:18 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne16 min: Good defending from Romero hands Man Utd a corner from which Vicario comes but doesn’t claim the ball.
Amad then smashes the ball at goal but it flashes across.
Dan Kilpatrick at San Mames
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:16 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneThis is not the cagey final I expected. It's being played at quite a pace and is already full of nervy and hurried pieces of defending.
Spurs are letting United enjoy possession in safe areas and springing clever traps with their press, which is working well so far.
Luke Shaw looks especially uncomfortable up against Brennan Johnson.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:15 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne13 min: Foul by Johnson on Dorgu is exactly what Man Utd will have wanted. Chance to slow the game down after a spell of Tottenham pressure.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:14 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne12 min: CHANCE
Maguire doesn’t get enough distance on his clearance and that allows Johnson to get in behind the Man United defence. The Welshman smashes an effort right at Onana before Sarr has an effort blocked.
Chance for Spurs to maintain the pressure with a free-kick in a good position.
Ball falls to Richarlison but his shot is deflected behind for a corner.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:11 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne9 min: Lovely cross from Porro, equally as good defending from Mazraoui at the back post to concede a corner.
Porro goes over to take and Onana deals with it by punching the ball clear.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:10 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne7 min: Decent centre-forward play from Hojlund as he gets Man Utd up the pitch. He complains to the referee about some rough treatment from Bissouma but those complaints fall on deaf ears.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:07 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne5 min: Nervy moment from Udogie as he swipes at the ball from Shaw’s free-kick and Vicario can’t keep it from going behind for a corner.
Swung in by Fernandes but it comes to nothing.
Ball returned into the box and Holjund gets to the ball before Vicario, he finds Fernandes who is eventually crowded out.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne2 min: Shaw thinks he has played the ball off Johnson for a goal-kick, however the decision goes against the Man United defender as Spurs are awarded a corner instead.
Porro takes but the whistle is blown as van de Ven fouls Maguire, thus giving Man United a free-kick.
Tottenham 0-0 Manchester United
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:03 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne1 min: Hojlund caught offside in the opening minute. Is that a sign of things to come tonight?

Manchester United forced into change
Wednesday 21 May 2025 20:00 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneManchester United have been forced into a significant change of kit for today’s Europa League final against Tottenham.
Ruben Amorim’s side take on Ange Postecoglou’s men in Bilbao, with a lucrative place in next year’s Champions League up for grabs for the winner.
Now, going into the high-stakes affair, Spurs could have a slight psychological advantage over their counterparts, and it all comes down to kit.
Spurs are technically the ‘home’ team for the final, and as such, have priority when it comes to sporting their traditional home kit.

Who is Felix Zwayer?
Wednesday 21 May 2025 19:58 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneReferee Felix Zwayer is back in the spotlight for the Europa League final between Tottenham and Manchester United tonight.
Zwayer began officiating 20 years ago and back in 2005 he was banned for six months after accepting a €300 bribe.
German newspaper Die Zeit exposed Zwayer’s role in the match-fixing scandal during an investigation, but in the years since has rebuilt his career, and reputation.
Last summer he took charge of four games at Euro 2024, including England’s semi-final win over the Netherlands.
That game saw Zwayer reunited with England midfielder Jude Bellingham, who accused him of being corrupt four years ago - and subsequently fined - when playing for Borussia Dortmund.

Wednesday 21 May 2025 19:50 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneThe teams have brought home comforts of north London and Manchester to Bilbao.
After usual match-day host Paul Coyte rouses the Spurs end, there's the trumpeter's rendition of 'Oh when the Spurs'. For United, it's John Denver's 'Country Roads'.
From up here in the gods, the stadium is quite a sight as both sets of fans wave their flags, while the noise is really ramping up.

Why Mason Mount starts over Alejandro Garnacho
Wednesday 21 May 2025 19:40 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneRuben Amorim has explained his decision to start Mason Mount over Alejandro Garnacho in the Europa League final.
Goals have often been a problem for Amorim’s side this season and the United boss had a key decision to make over the two players starting behind striker Rasmus Hojlund.
With Bruno Fernandes in a deeper role alongside Casemiro, Amad Diallo gets the nod on the right, while Amorim has opted for Mason Mount, who scored twice in the second leg of the semi-final win over Athletic Bilbao, on the other flank.
That means Garnacho has to settle for a place on the bench, though Amorim suggested the winger could still have a key role to play off the bench later in the match.

Manchester United's route to Europa League final
Wednesday 21 May 2025 19:37 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneJust like Spurs, Man United avoided a knockout play-off tie after sealing a top-eight finish in the league phase of the Europa League.
Their run to the final has been drama-filled, particularly the quarter-final win over Lyon where a stunning comeback in extra-time saw them progress.
The semi-final against Athletic Club was a lot more straightforward, winning 7-1 on aggregate.

Tottenham's route to the Europa League final
Wednesday 21 May 2025 19:35 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneAfter sealing a top-eight finish in the league phase of the Europa League this season, Spurs received a bye into the last-16.
They had to overturn a first-leg deficit against AZ to progress, beating Eintracht Frankfurt and then Bodo/Glimt in the quarter-final and semi-final respectively.

Will Tottenham or Man United have to qualify for Champions League?
Wednesday 21 May 2025 19:30 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneThe winner of the final will become the latest Premier League side to book their place in next season’s Champions League.
Liverpool and Arsenal have already done so after wrapping up a top-five finish, and they will be joined by three of Newcastle, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest.
There will therefore be six Premier League clubs in the competition next season, as a result of the rule that the Europa League winners earn a place in the top tier of European competition.

Tottenham to 'overwhelm' Bruno Fernandes in Europa League final
Wednesday 21 May 2025 19:26 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneAnge Postecoglou urged his Tottenham players to “overwhelm” Bruno Fernandes in the Europa League final.
Spurs take on Manchester United on a huge night in Bilbao, as they go in search of a first piece of silverware since 2008 and a first European trophy in 41 years.
In a largely miserable season for Ruben Amorim’s side, Fernandes has been the standout player and Postecoglou made it clear Spurs must pay him particularly attention.

Ange speaks pre-match
Wednesday 21 May 2025 19:22 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneAnge Postecoglou has mentioned "running power" will be key tonight.
"They're the constant, they're always there, and we wanna give back, tonight could be a special night" 🏆

How many Europa League final tickets were Tottenham and Manchester United given?
Wednesday 21 May 2025 19:20 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneThe San Mames holds a capacity of just over 53,000, but as ever that has not just been split equally between the two clubs in the final.
The ticket allocation for Tottenham and Man United is 14,770, all of which were quickly snapped up.
UEFA’s website states that 41,000 tickets have been made available to "fans and the general public", suggesting just over 10,000 have been handed out in the ballot to neutrals.
The remaining 12,000 or so will be given out as UEFA see fit, largely to sponsors.

Dan Kilpatrick at San Mames
Wednesday 21 May 2025 19:15 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneNot starting Son, his captain and talisman, is a huge call from Postecoglou and contrasts with Mauricio Pochettino's decision to start Harry Kane after injury in the 2019 Champions League Final.
Richarlison has earned a spot with disciplined displays in both legs against Bodo/Glimt, while Son's legs could be decisive from the bench.
But the Korean is a difference-maker on his day, and that could be decisive in a cagey game.
Sir Alex Ferguson is here!
Wednesday 21 May 2025 19:10 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneRoyalty has arrived in Bilbao as Sir Alex Ferguson, arguably, the greatest ever manager, is here for the Europa League final!

Man United changes
Wednesday 21 May 2025 19:05 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneJust the one change to the Manchester United team that started against Chelsea last time out as Leny Yoro is passed fit and he replaces Victor Lindelof in central defence.
Elsewhere, Joshua Zirkzee is named on the bench after making a quicker than expected recovery from a hamstring injury.

Tottenham changes
Wednesday 21 May 2025 19:00 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneIt is 10 changes from the Tottenham side that started the 2-0 loss at Aston Villa last Friday.
However, it’s a team that reflects how Spurs usually set up in the Europa League.
The big news is captain Heung-min Son is only on the bench, whilst Pape Matar Sarr is fit enough to start in midfield.

Wednesday 21 May 2025 18:41 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneJames Maddison has joined the TNT Sports punditry team ahead of kick-off.
The Tottenham midfielder is unavailable tonight because of injury and admits missing out has been a bitter pill to swallow.
He said: "I'm gutted, I'm devastated to miss out, I feel like I have had a good European campaign. To get to the final hurdle and not be involved is difficult."

Dan Kilpatrick at San Mames
Wednesday 21 May 2025 18:39 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneThe magnificent San Mames is still sparsely filled but there was a huge roar just as I got up to the press box, as the Spurs players came out to the pitch to have a look around.
Among the last to make their way back to the dressing room were Lucas Bergvall, who is not expected to feature tonight due to an ankle injury, and Djed Spence, looking very dapper in a a dark suit.
Now here come some of the United players, decked out in blue suits and led by the bleach blonde hair of Alejandro Garnacho.
Heung-min Son out to change course of Tottenham history
Wednesday 21 May 2025 18:35 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneHeung-min Son believes winning the Europa League would change the "history and mentality" of Tottenham and pave the way for more trophies in the future.
Spurs are aiming to win a first European trophy since 1984 and first piece of silverware in 17 years when they face Manchester United in the Europa League Final here in Bilbao on Wednesday.
Son has been a loser in two previous finals and three semi-finals since joining the club in summer 2015, and believes beating United in Bilbao can set the club on a new and successful course.

Pre-match preparations

Ange Postecoglou insists 'future is assured'
Wednesday 21 May 2025 18:25 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneAnge Postecoglou has said he wants to stay at Tottenham beyond the end of the season, insisting the job is "far from finished".
Postecoglou is widely expected to leave Spurs at the end of the campaign regardless of the result of Wednesday's Europa League final against Manchester United here in Bilbao.
The Australian, who has two years remaining on his contract, has overseen a difficult league campaign, with Spurs in 17th in the league table ahead of hosting Brighton on the final day on Sunday after 21 defeats from 37 matches.
But he could lead the club to a first piece of silverware since 2008 and a first European trophy in 41 years.

The prize
Wednesday 21 May 2025 18:20 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneThis is what it’s all about tonight. The Europa League trophy!
Heung-min Son and Bruno Fernandes are the respective captains tonight, but only one will be getting their hands on the prize.

Predicted Manchester United XI
Wednesday 21 May 2025 18:15 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneBruno Fernandes will undoubtedly take one of two attacking midfield slots in Ruben Amorim’s usual 3-4-2-1 set-up. That leaves one position up for grabs, and - if Amad Diallo is already included elsewhere in the line-up - two leading candidates: Mason Mount and Alejandro Garnacho.
The Argentine has started the majority of United’s matches this season, including every knock-out match en route to Bilbao, but has notably been benched in each of their last two (admittedly meaningless) league fixtures, while Mount has started each of their last three and proved instrumental in sealing their spot in the final.
The ex-Chelsea playmaker replaced Garnacho in the semi-final second leg, so Amorim will have to decide which of the two considerably different attackers he prefers from the start against Spurs and which he’d like to turn to as a potential game-changer late on.
Predicted Manchester United XI (3-4-2-1): Onana; Lindelof, Maguire, Yoro; Amad, Ugarte, Casemiro, Dorgu; Garnacho, Fernandes; Hojlund.

Predicted Tottenham XI
Wednesday 21 May 2025 18:10 , Tashan Deniran-AlleynePape Matar Sarr is fit after being forced off in Friday's 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa with discomfort in his back and could line up in a midfield three ahead of Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma.
Winger Wilson Odobert has played centrally in the last two league matches and is also another option to deputise at the tip of midfield.
Ange Postecoglou, though, used a 4-4-2 system at Villa Park, with Odobert and Mathys Tel up front, which may hint at his plans for United.
With a slight change of system, Richarlison could partner Dominic Solanke in a front two, with Brennan Johnson and fit-again captain Heung-min Son on the wings. Solanke's ability to hold up the ball and bring others into play make him a potentially good fit to drop into the No10 position.
Tottenham predicted XI (4-4-2): Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Johnson, Bentancur, Bissouma, Son; Solanke, Richarlison.

Gary Neville makes his Europa League final prediction
Wednesday 21 May 2025 17:55 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneGary Neville has made his prediction for the Europa League final as Manchester United and Tottenham prepare to face off in Bilbao.
Both clubs have languished firmly in the bottom half of the table for much of the season and currently occupy the two positions above the relegation zone, on course for their worst-ever Premier League seasons.
But their domestic woes will be somewhat forgotten with victory in the Europa League final, as Spurs look to win their first trophy in 17 years, and first European silverware in 41 years.
United are looking to win the competition for the first time since 2017, and Neville believes his former team will get the job done.

Should Tottenham get the better of Manchester United tonight, there is expected to be a parade on Friday to celebrate the success.
The club will also have a decision to make on how they distribute the medals.
UEFA rules state that the winners of the competition will be given 50 medals, which they are allowed to give out as they see fit between players and staff.
There are no requirements in terms of minimum appearances, like in the Premier League where players must have featured at least five times to earn a medal.

Ruben Amorim resignation reports before Europa League final
Wednesday 21 May 2025 17:45 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneRuben Amorim had to be convinced not to quit as Manchester United manager, it has been claimed.
As the manager gears up to guide United out at the Europa League final, reports have emerged that the former Sporting manager wanted to hand in his resignation just weeks after his appointment.
ESPN report that Amorim was so overwhelmed by the scale of the job at Old Trafford, he was prepared to walk away from the job in January after a run of just one win in his first eight games.
Amorim made the United hierarchy aware of his concerns, but the likes of chief executive Omar Berrada gave him reassurances of the board’s confidence in him and promised funds to improve the squad in the summer.
And now Amorim has the opportunity to turn a disaster domestic campaign into a season to remember with European success, should they beat a Tottenham side who are similarly struggling.
