Tottenham vs Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes explains instant chemistry with Paul Pogba

Bruno Fernandes says his partnership alongside Paul Pogba in training was key after the pair showed an instant connection as Manchester United restarted their Premier League campaign with a draw against Tottenham.

Fernandes took the Premier League by storm after arriving from Sporting Lisbon in January, guiding United to an impressive 11-game unbeaten run.

With Pogba sidelined with a long-term injury, alongside the three-month lay-off due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the highly anticipated pairing between the two midfielders was made to wait.

However, Pogba's 30-minute cameo against Tottenham was enough to provide United fans with plenty of optimism, with the dynamic pair linking up seamlessly.

With Tottenham holding on to a 1-0 lead with 10 minutes remaining, Pogba showed his worth with a sublime piece of trickery, taking the ball past Eric Dier who brought him down in the box.

Fernandes calmly dispatched the resulting penalty and subsequently revealed what it was like to finally play alongside his team-mate.

"We did very well," Fernandes told Sky Sports. "It was a difficult game. They scored on the counter but we were in the game all the time. We had a lot of chances.

"It's not enough for us because we want to win every game bit a good result."

Asked how it was to finally play alongside Pogba, Fernandes said: "We've been training hard in the past weeks. When we train in groups, I was in a group with Paul Pogba so finding a connection is easier

"I found a good connection with everyone and the most important thing is the team, I think Paul thinks the same.

"Paul won the penalty and I kicked it... it doesn't matter who scored or anything. The more important thing is winning.

"We need to look at the Champions League. At the end I kicked the ball and then found his foot. The VAR is here to help, if it says no penalty we have to accept."
