Tottenham vs Man Utd: Team news, injury updates and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer latest

Tottenham Hotspur host Manchester United in what is already a potential make or break match for Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The United boss has been given three games to save his job after Sunday’s embarrassing 5-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford - stretching their winless run in the league to four matches.

However, similar pressure is also on Nuno Espirito Santos at Spurs, who made a positive start to the season by winning his first three games, but has struggled for consistency since.

Spurs lost 1-0 at West Ham last Sunday so, just like United, they desperately need three points to close the gap on the top four.

A win for Spurs could lift them into fourth, pending on other results, while United can follow suit under the same circumstances.

Team news

Spurs have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the tie and will be expected to use the same squad that travelled to West Ham and played at Burnley in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

The only confirmed injury worry for Nuno is Ryan Sessegnon, who is not yet ready to come back into the squad, but Matt Doherty is expected to make his return after picking up a knock whilst on international duty with Republic of Ireland earlier this month.

For United, Paul Pogba’s three match suspension begins with this fixture after VAR changed his yellow card to a red for his challenge on Liverpool’s Naby Keita.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has also revealed that Raphael Varane and fellow Frenchman Anthony Martial could be pushing for a return for this fixture.

Solskjaer latest

United’s manager was already under pressure before Liverpool came to Old Trafford and dismantled his side 5-0 on Sunday, but since that game his future has been up in the air.

Although Solskjaer is said to have the club’s full backing, it has also been reported that the Norwegian has three games to save his job in the United dugout - beginning with Saturday’s trip to the capital.

Three points would give Solskjaer a major advantage, but his situation could become far worse if United are humiliated again.

"It's been a difficult week, of course, we've had to deal with the result and performance against Liverpool which we know wasn't good enough and that's something that footballers have to deal with," he said.

"That's why we're in this game, you have to look forward to the next game, make sure you're ready."

Nuno latest

Nuno is also under pressure as Spurs boss after his side’s inconsistent start to the season.

The Harry Kane transfer saga certainly hasn’t helped things, with Kane’s performances seemingly having a knock-on affect on the side, but there has also been the issue of Spurs combusting after winning their first three Premier League games of the season.

Nuno may have started well with a big win against Manchester City on the opening weekend, but losses to Chelsea and north London rivals Arsenal followed. A big result against United would take the pressure off the Portuguese’s shoulders.
