Tottenham vs Man United: The latest on the match amid coronavirus and behind closed doors fears

Tottenham's Premier League game against Manchester United is still scheduled to go ahead as planned on Sunday despite fears over the coronavirus.

With a number of Champions League and Europa League fixtures all being played behind closed doors, it has since been confirmed that football in La Liga has been suspended for at least two weeks.

The NBA season has also been suspended indefinitely after Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert tested positive for coronavirus.

Calls are now growing louder for the Premier League to come to a stop and many believe that it will indeed happen sooner rather than later.

Reports on Thursday claim that an emergency meeting of the Government's COBRA committee could well see the league taken behind closed doors at the very least.

It is also expected to officially announce that the UK had moved from the 'contain' phase of their coronavirus action plan to the 'delay’ phase, which could include social distancing measures.

As of Thursday afternoon, the Lilywhites' home match against Manchester United is still going ahead.

Whereas Spurs played their Champions League game away at RB Leipzig on Tuesday in front of supporters, United take on LASK in the Europa League on Thursday evening but the fixture is taking place behind closed doors.

Amid the real prospect of Premier League games taking place with no supporters inside the stadium, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked about the coronavirus and the potential ramifications at his pre-match press conference.

"I would understand, yes, under the circumstances," he told the MEN about the prospect of playing games behind closed doors or even suspending the season.

"Of course it’s up to the experts to decide and the main concern must be the health of the general public and the decision that will be made we will back.

"The players are focused and just concentrating on the job, of course these are difficult circumstances, not just for football but in the whole society.

"For us, we just have to do what we’re told, and get on with the game if that’s what the authorities think we should do.

"They’ve been the same, they’ve prepared for the game as we normally do."

This story will be updated with the latest news on Spurs playing the Red Devils this weekend and what will happen with the Premier League throughout the coming days.
