Tottenham vs Man City
Uefa Champions League 2018-19
Quarter-final, first leg
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Date: Tuesday, 9 April, 2019
Kick-off time: 8pm GMT
Premier League rivals Tottenham and Manchester City have been pitted against one another in the Champions League quarter-finals.
A place in the last four is on offer for either Mauricio Pochettino or Pep Guardiola, who will both fancy their chances of progressing after avoiding the likes of Barcelona and Juventus in the draw.
The first tie will take place at Tottenham's new stadium before the deciding leg at the Etihad.
Whatever happens, the first leg promises to be an electrifying affair on the first big European night of a new era for Spurs.
Tottenham vs Man City team news and predicted line-ups
Neither Spurs nor City have any suspension issues to worry about, with yellow cards wiped at this stage of the competition.
Fernando Llorente should be back from concussion, but Eric Dier (groin) and Erik Lamela (hamstring) are out, while Serge Aurier (hamstring) is unlikely to recover in time.
Tottenham XI: Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Sissoko, Alli, Eriksen, Son, Rose, Kane
Sergio Aguero faces a crunch 48 hours to be fit. The striker is still to train since suffering a muscular strain against Fulham last week.
Pep Guardiola hoped he would be able to play some part in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final win against Cardiff – but was advised against involving the Argentine by club doctors.
If Aguero fails to come through training on Sunday, Guardiola faces the prospect of going into Tuesday’s game without his talismanic striker.
Kyle Walker will also be assessed after suffering a hamstring strain on Saturday.
Benjamin Mendy’s return to fitness is a boost is a boost for City with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabian Delph both injured.
Man City XI: Ederson, Walker, Laporte, Otamendi, Mendy, Gundogan, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Sterling, Aguero
Score prediction: Tottenham 1-1 Man City
Man City won 1-0 at Wembley in the Premier League earlier this season, and will be confident of scoring at least one away goal in the first leg.
However, Spurs will surely be buoyed by the prospect of playing at their new stadium, and have earned some famous European home wins in recent years.
With neither manager likely to commit to the tie on the night, it could be a cagey affair to set up a second-leg shootout in Manchester.
Head to Head history and results (h2h)
The sides have met 156 times previously, with City winning 61 times, Spurs 60, and 35 draws.
The rivals have never previously faced each other in a European competition, while Man City have won the last three Premier League meetings by an aggregate score of 8-2 - most recently a 1-0 victory at Wembley in October 2018.
