Tottenham vs Liverpool team news: Jan Vertonghen confirms he is fit enough to start Champions League final in Madrid

Jan Vertonghen has confirmed he will be fit enough to start for Tottenham in the Champions League final vs Liverpool.

The Belgian centre-back picked up the right ankle knock after Spurs’ dramatic semi-final win over Ajax.

Some reports suggested he sustained the injury during the celebrations after Lucas Moura’s stoppage time winner.

He then left the stadium on crutches with a protective boot around his right foot.

But the 32-year-old has now calmed fears he could miss the match at the Wanda Metropolitano.

“I have fully trained with the squad last week,” the Spurs defender revealed to VTM NIEUWS.

“I feel good – super good. I have an history of ankle injuries, but I was only worried for half an hour – just after the Ajax game.

“The first assessments were positive – and you have to know that our physios are always very cautious.

“That gave me confidence. Still you have to wait for the scans, but they confirmed the diagnosis.

“After three days I got rid of the protective boot and the crutches.”
