Champions League final prediction: How will Tottenham vs Liverpool play out tonight?

Liverpool face Tottenham in the 2019 Champions League final tonight.

The Reds took their place in a second consecutive final after coming from behind to dump out Barcelona in the semi-finals.

Spurs needed some second-leg heroics themselves with Lucas Moura grabbing the latest of winners to send them through against Ajax.

They now meet each other in Madrid for the right to call themselves European champions.

Here's everything you need to know:

Prediction

The psychology of a one-country final makes this one tough to call. Liverpool are clearly the better team - their league position illustrates that fairly neatly - and they arrive in Madrid in better form too.

But Tottenham arguably shaded it the last time they met with Hugo Lloris' calamitous error handing the Reds victory at the very end.

Spurs will hope to start as they ended then, that mistake aside, with Moussa Sissoko hoping to take hold of that crucial middle third. Indeed, Tottenham's best hope of success perhaps comes from winning the midfield exchange.

Pochettino must decide whether he goes for it out wide and attempts to exploit the space that will undoubtedly be left when Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson bomb forwards. Or does he sit in and try to defend against that threat with extra numbers and midfielders dropping deep?

Liverpool, for their part, only really know one way to play and will go full throttle from the off regardless. Expect their attacking trio to give Tottenham's back four all they can handle.

Mohamed Salah vs Danny Rose and Sadio Mane against Kieran Trippier feels like a key factor and could be what settles it.

1-3, Liverpool lift a sixth European Cup.

What time does it start?

The game will kick-off at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid at 8pm on Saturday night.

Where can I watch it?

The game will be broadcast on BT Sport 2 and BT Sport 4K UHD.

Subscribers can also stream the game online via the BT Sport website with the match also being streamed live on the BT Sport YouTube channel.

Team news

The fitness of Harry Kane is the headline selection headache for Pochettino with the England captain still recovering from an ankle injury picked up in the quarter-final first leg win over Manchester City.

The man himself says he's "ready to go" but it'll be down to his manager to make the final call. Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose should all be fit after working through knocks.

For the Reds, midfielder Naby Keita will miss the game with a muscle strain with Roberto Firmino the only touch and go member of the squad.

Left-back Andrew Robertson, who felt a calf strain against Wolves, will be good to go.

One-country Champions League finals

"The greater knowledge of the opposition, in such a final, ironically gives them so much more to think about," writes Miguel Delaney as he delves into what one-country Champions League final so unique.

“No player likes it,” Santiago Canizares tells The Independent, the goalkeeper having played for Valencia against Real Madrid in the very first one-country final back in 2000. “You never like it, not in normal knock-outs, but especially not the final. It’s an international competition, and you prefer to play teams from other countries, but then you’re facing a side you know well.”

The Liverpool player are greeted with cheers as they take to the pitch

Who's excited?

Who has missed out?

Lucas Moura and Divock Origi can feel slightly annoyed at being left on the bench this evening. Both players are responsible for their teams being here, scoring late goals in the semi-finals.

What it does mean, however, is that both sides have quality on the bench to bring on later in the game if things are tight later on. Tottenham can call on Lucas, Erik Lamela or Fernando Llorente, while Liverpool have James Milner, Adam Lallana, Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to call on.

Spurs go with a back four

The three at the back was a real problem for Tottenham at Anfield and it quickly became a flat back five as Liverpool pressed high and found space behind.

They swapped to a back four after the break and the diamond in midfield worked a treat. Things went very well for Spurs, who may have won if Sissoko found the back of the net when through on goal, until Hugo Lloris chucked the ball in his own net.

Nerves or excitement?

Pressure on Liverpool?

With six consecutive defeats in finals, it's reasonable to think that Klopp is under a little bit of pressure to deliver tonight.

Rio Ferdinand on BT Sport: "There's no doubt in my mind Klopp is nervous. The amount of times he has been to finals and lot. He has to alleviate that from his players. You don't want that bad luck vibe."

Michael Owen: "The pressure is on Liverpool. It's inconceivable you can be that good but not collect something."

Lucas reflects on that goal

Lucas Moura's hat-trick against Ajax, including the final kick of the game, set Spurs on their way to the Champions League final, the greatest moment of his playing career.

"It was the best day of my career," he told BT Sport. "The best game for me. I always believed everything is possible when you give your best.

"Football give us this moment. It was a special moment, it was impossible not to cry.It was an unbelievable day. I will never forget this."

Pochettino urges players to use "superior energy"

The Tottenham manager has urged his players to use the spiritual work they have been doing on the training ground to their advantage in tonight's final.

"That is proof of how, with your mind, you can create, you can connect with this energy," Pochettino said.

"It's a superior energy that you can connect with if you are open if you have opened your mind.

"With some strategies, you can connect with this energy, that is around us, that nearly touches you, but if you are not open to receive this energy, you cannot feel it.

"I think all these strategies were to try to help us, the team, connect with this energy. This energy that is so powerful. That makes you feel invincible.

"And one thing that is important that we were talking about the other day is that when the competition arrives... we all have fears, it's not that you are not going to fear anything, you are still going to have fears but you're going to be free to work (through them).

"I feel very positive. They make me feel very positive. The team translates to us a very good energy.

"That doesn't mean that we are going to win 3-0, 4-0 or 5-0. We need to go there and do our job.

"But I think the preparation we are doing is an amazing thing, and is an amazing experience, very positive."

He's awake!

Jamie Carragher has sharpened up after being caught out on live television earlier today.

Hoddle: Kane will be on the bench

Former Tottenham player and manager Glenn Hoddle met Harry Kane earlier in the week and believes he will start on the bench.

"He was very relaxed. For me I think he will be on the bench," Hoddle said on BT Sport. "I have that gut feeling and he's happy to be involved because three week ago he's thinking 'we're out'".

"It is their (Spurs) first final they have to be nice and calm, calmer than I am, you have to be here for a reason.

"We thought both of these team were out. And there were two footballing miracles. There's not been a cl like it for so many years. It shows the grit and the determination of the English teams."
