Tottenham vs Liverpool
Uefa Champions League Final 2018-19
Venue: Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Madrid
Date: Saturday, June 1, 2019
Kick-off time: 8:00pm BST
Tottenham and Liverpool meet in an all-English Champions League Final in Madrid after two of the most remarkable European comebacks of all time.
The Premier League rivals were both staring down the barrel of semi-final exits, but Spurs and Liverpool shocked Barcelona and Ajax respectively with incredible victories.
Having lost the first leg of their semi-final 3-0 at Camp Nou, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool stunned Barca with a 4-0 win at Anfield to knock Lionel Messi & Co. out of the competition.
As for Tottenham, they trailed Ajax 3-0 on aggregate at half-time of their second leg in Amsterdam - but a second-half hat-trick from Lucas Moura sent Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs through on away goals.
With the European Cup destined to end up at either Tottenham Hotspur Stadium or Anfield this season, here's our guide to the Final.
Tottenham vs Liverpool team news and predicted line-ups
Tottenham
Neither side has any suspensions to worry about for the Final, but there are injury concerns.
Harry Kane is optimistic that he recover from ankle ligament damage in time for the Final, though it remains to be seen whether Pochettino would start his star striker with no game time before the biggest match of their respective Spurs careers.
Davinson Sanchez is currently out with a thigh injury, while Harry Winks will miss the Final after undergoing groin surgery.
Tottenham XI: Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Wanyama, Sissoko, Dele Alli, Eriksen, Son, Lucas
Liverpool
The Reds were already short of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana going into their semi-final second leg vs Barca.
And they were hit with a further blow at half-time as Andy Robertson signalled his inability to continue.
But, after somehow overcoming those setbacks to clinch a 4-0 victory, Klopp’s men now have 25 days to restore as many players as possible to full fitness.
As things stand, Keita is the only one of Liverpool’s sidelined sextet who has no chance of making it back.
Salah’s post-Newcastle concussion kept him out of yesterday’s second leg, but he is expected to be in contention.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is in a similar position after suffering a muscular injury, and Robertson seemed confident in his chances of a quick comeback.
The picture is less clear, however, on Firmino and Lallana. Liverpool’s Brazilian No.9 must hope the groin injury that restricted him to a substitute appearance in Spain and kept him out of yesterday’s Anfield return clears up in time for Madrid. That could mean semi-final hero Origi starts.
Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Lovren, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Milner, Mane, Origi, Salah
Prediction
Liverpool should be slight favourites given their superb Premier League campaign, but it would be foolish to hedge your bets either way at this stage after watching those semi-final comebacks from both sides.
Much will depend on whether the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Harry Kane are match fit, though neither side exactly lacked their star forwards in the last round.
With so much at stake for both managers, expect a tight game which could likely be decided by a penalty shootout.
