Tottenham vs Crystal Palace LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and reaction after Eze masterclass

After the jubilation of Thursday night, Tottenham were brought back down to earth with a bump after suffering a 20th Premier League defeat. Spurs had been on a high heading into the London derby at home to Crystal Palace after overcoming Bodo/Glimt 5-1 on aggregate to reach the Europa League final.

However, whilst they are one step closer to ending a 17-year trophy drought, they have slipped to 17th in the table as a result of a 2-0 loss. Of course, the showdown at the San Mames in Bilbao with Manchester United on May 21 is the sole focus for Spurs now, Ange Postecoglou has said as much and his team selection reflected that.

The Eagles are also targeting trophy success. In six days time they face Manchester City at Wembley in the FA Cup final, and Oliver Glasner was rewarded for naming a strong team with Eberechi Eze scoring twice. Follow the game back below with our dedicated match blog, featuring expert analysis from Standard Sport’s Dan Kilpatrick at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium!

Spurs suffer 20th Premier League loss

17:01 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

A brace from the in-form Eberechi Eze means Palace have completed a Premier League double over Spurs, inflicting a 20th league defeat on the north London outfit in the process.

Tottenham player ratings

16:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Djed Spence 3

Repeatedly caught wildly out of position as Palace launched attack after attack down their right flank. Feels cruel to single out any player in white but he was especially shambolic.

Rodrigo Bentancur 6

One of Spurs’ better players in the first half but the bar was low. Hooked at half-time as Postecoglou manages minutes before the Final.

Archie Gray 5

Bypassed in midfield as Spurs were overrun. Will be interesting to see what he could do in his preferred position for a functioning team.

86 min: Game is petering out now, another Palace change sees Hughes replaced by Devenny.

Dan Kilpatrick at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:59 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

The return of Heung-min Son is obviously a huge boost for Spurs ahead of the Final, but he has looked rusty so far.

You imagine the Korean'll now start against Aston Villa on Friday night in the hope that he can get a lively hour under his belt before Bilbao.

Tottenham 0-2 Crystal Palace

15:58 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

81 min: Hint of handball in the box by Guehi. It is checked and cleared by VAR, NO PENALTY.

Tottenham 0-2 Crystal Palace

78 min: Half chance for Palace as Nketiah gets up early to meet Kamada’s cross, but the striker can’t get over the ball and the chances goes begging.

Tottenham 0-2 Crystal Palace

15:51 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

74 min: Tel wins a free-kick in a very promising position for Spurs. It is a long way out but looks like Son is going to shoot.

No, he clips the ball into the box and Guehi heads it away for a corner.

Tottenham 0-2 Crystal Palace

15:48 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

70 min: Son thinks he has sprung the offside trap, Lacroix gets back to stop the Spurs captain getting a shot away then the flag is raised and the visitors have a free-kick.

Tottenham 0-2 Crystal Palace

15:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

67 min: Palace carve Spurs open again as Chilwell fires the ball in at pace and Sarr can’t keep his effort down. He looked to be in an offside position in any case.

Tottenham 0-2 Crystal Palace

15:41 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

63 min: Kinsky is saved by the offside flag as he catches Munoz after taking a heavy touch. Luckily for the Spurs keeper, play is brought back and he escapes punishment.

Tottenham 0-2 Crystal Palace

15:37 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

60 min: Palace respond with a triple change.

Kamada, Chilwell (on loan from Chelsea) and Nketiah (ex-Arsenal) on for Lerma, Mitchell and Mateta.

Tottenham 0-2 Crystal Palace

15:34 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

57 min: A return to action for Heung-min Son after six games out. The Spurs captain replaces Pedro Porro.

Tottenham 0-2 Crystal Palace

15:32 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

55 min: Signs of life from Tottenham.

First, Odobert flashes the ball across the face of goal but Moore can’t make contact. Then Porro whips in a delicious cross but Sarr gets his header all wrong.

Tottenham 0-2 Crystal Palace

15:31 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

53 min: As it stands, Tottenham are 17th in the Premier League table.

Dan Kilpatrick at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:29 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

So Palace have picked up where they left off after half-time and are battering Spurs again.

No surprise the goal came with another break down the right; Spence is having a poor game and getting caught out every time Palace break.

Tottenham 0-2 Crystal Palace

15:27 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

50 min: Almost a third for Crystal Palace as he skips away from Danso but shoots straight at Kinsky.

GOAL! Tottenham 0-2 Crystal Palace | Eberechi Eze '48

15:26 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

48 min: Eberechi Eze cannot stop scoring!

He starts and finishes the move by sweeping the ball out to Sarr who lays the ball on a plate for the midfielder who makes no mistake.

Tottenham 0-1 Crystal Palace

15:24 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

46 min: Bissouma has been on the pitch for just over a minute and he’s already in the book. However, it is not for a raised boot on Hughes but rather for dissent.

Tottenham 0-1 Crystal Palace

15:22 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Back underway in north London!

Change for Tottenham as Yves Bissouma replaces Bentancur who was on a yellow card.

HALF-TIME

15:06 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Tottenham 0-1 Crystal Palace

Visitors deservedly lead at the break. They had two goals disallowed before Eberechi Eze broke the deadlock.

Dan Kilpatrick at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

15:06 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Palace finally have a goal that counts and it's richly deserved. Munoz escaped down the right for the sixth or seventh time this half and it was the easiest of finishes for Eze.

If Spurs are invested in getting anything from this game (and let's face it, they may not be), Postecoglou probably needs to make some changes before too long.

Tottenham 0-1 Crystal Palace

15:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

45+3 min: Porro goes for goal and he’s not far away at all.

Tottenham 0-1 Crystal Palace

15:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

45+3 min: Chance for Spurs to respond right before half-time as Lerma is adjudged to have fouled Tel.

Porro stands over the ball.

GOAL! Tottenham 0-1 Crystal Palace | Eberechi Eze '45

15:03 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

45 min: Third time lucky for Crystal Palace as Munoz races clear and squares the ball to Eze for a simple tap-in.

Will this count though? VAR are having a check.

GOAL GIVEN

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

15:01 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

43 min: GOAA...NOOO

Another corner causes issues for Tottenham as Lacroix puts the ball in the net. However, the goal does not stand as the ball, accidentally, flicks the hand of Guehi.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:59 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

42 min: CLOSE!

Eze takes aim from range and his effort takes a deflection, loops up in the air and drops just wide of the post.

Dan Kilpatrick at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

14:58 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Spurs have no creativity in midfield and no-one in the front three capable of holding up the ball, making attacking very difficult.

I wonder if Postecoglou will consider introducing Richarlison or Solanke at half-time, just to give his players something to aim at.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:56 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

39 min: Loose pass from Gray gifts Palace back possession straight after Tel had done well to pinch the ball off Tel.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:53 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

36 min: First yellow card of the afternoon goes to Rodrigo Bentancur for a foul on Ismaila Sarr.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:51 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

34 min: Good run from Mateta who forces a corner off Danso.

Palace are knocking on the door but another intervention from Davies stops Mateta scoring. Another corner for the visitors, this one is played short before Eze gets too much on the cross.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:49 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

32 min: Palace are very much on top here as Spurs seem intent of gifting them a goal. Sarr is clean through but his effort is deflected up and over by Davies for a corner.

From the set-piece, Richards gets his head to the ball but Kinsky is equal to it.

Dan Kilpatrick at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

14:47 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Spence is way, way off it today, leaving Palace with so much space down their right-hand side. Munoz has squandered two big chances, crashing the first off the crossbar before opting to pass from a glorious position.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:47 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

30 min: Palace guilty of over-playing there. Munoz is put clean through on goal but he elects to square the ball to Mateta who is not only in a offside position but the pass is over hit.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

28 min: Mateta powers forward, puts in Munoz who fires a shot at the near post but his effort is always rising as the ball clips the top of the crossbar and goes over the bar.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:42 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

25 min: GREAT SAVE

Kinsky gets a strong right hand to keep out Mateta’s effort from close range. The Palace striker must have felt he had given Palace the lead!

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

23 min: Tel is down now, the Frenchman appeared to jar his ankle in a tackle with Hughes.

He should be fine to continue.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:39 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

22 min: Just on the Palace goal that was disallowed. Replays showed that Jean-Philippe Mateta was marginally offside in the build-up to Ismaila Sarr putting the ball in the back of the net.

Dan Kilpatrick at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

14:38 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

That's about the last thing anyone associated with Spurs wanted to see today: Kulusevski forced off after a heavy challenge inside 18 minutes. He tried to continue after treatment on his knee but heads straight down tunnel.

Mikey Moore is on with Tel moving to centre-forward.

A major worry for Postecoglou ahead of the Europa League Final, particularly with Maddison and Bergvall already ruled out.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:36 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

19 min: Decision made, Moore replaces Kulusevski.

Ange Postecoglou will hope that is nothing serious especially with the Europa League final on the horizon.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:34 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

18 min: Changed is being prepared as youngster Mikey Moore is called back.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:34 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

17 min: Tottenham do have Heung-min Son and Richarlison on the bench if a change is required.

Kulusevski is not looking particularly comfortable.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:32 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

16 min: Break in play and a fresh injury worry for Spurs as Kulusevski requires treatment.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:32 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

15 min: Nervy moment for Kinsky as he almost makes a complete mess of Munoz’s rather weak attempt at goal. The Spurs keeper let the effort spill into a dangerous are but he was quick enough to smother the ball.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

13 min: Lacroix makes a brilliant tackle to stop Kulusevski getting a shot on target. Spurs have a corner which Henderson eventually takes control of the situation after a bit of pinball in the area.

Dan Kilpatrick at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

14:28 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

A fractional offside denies Palace a brilliant opening goal. They ripped through Spurs with a string of passes, which started with Henderson and ended with Ismaila Sarr.

A warning for Spurs who, somewhat unsurprisingly, have started the game slackly.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:27 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

10 min: Scratch that! No goal!

Ismaila Sarr's effort is ruled out for offside.

GOAL! Tottenham 0-1 Crystal Palace | Ismaila Sarr '8

14:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

8 min: GOALLLLL

Sarr breaks the deadlock and Palace take an early lead!

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:21 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

3 min: Tottenham survive a scare as a ball to the back post from Munoz almost reaches the other Crystal Palace wing-back in Mitchell but the Spurs defence does enough and Kinsky dives onto the ball.

Dan Kilpatrick at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

14:18 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

The question for Spurs today is whether this is just another abject performance from the second-string or if these players no sense an opportunity to impress before the Europa League Final.

Palace are in a similar situation, though this is much closer to Oliver Glasner's best team. Kulusevski is up front for Spurs, with Sarr at No10.

Tottenham 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:18 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

1 min: Tottenham straight on the attack as Porro looks to cut the ball back for Kulusevski but his attempt is put out for a corner.

Porro takes the set-piece but the delivery is not a good one as Palace clear.

Premier League struggles help Tottenham's Europa League final run

13:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Ange Postecoglou believes Tottenham’s struggles in the Premier League have bred the resilience which helped them reach the Europa League final.

Spurs are approaching the end of a testing Premier League campaign, sitting 16th in the table with just 11 wins, but they have thrived in cup competitions, qualifying for the Europa League final after beating Bodo/Glimt on Thursday and also reaching the League Cup semi-finals earlier this year.

For Postecoglou, Tottenham’s varying fortunes have helped the team to bond.

Last time in north London

13:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Crystal Palace got the better of Tottenham in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, winning 1-0 at Selhurst Park.

However, in the corresponding meeting last season, Spurs came from behind to win 3-1.

Three goals in 11 minutes were enough to complete the turnaround with Timo Werner, Cristian Romero and Heung-min Son all on the scoresheet.

Tottenham vs Crystal Palace stats

13:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

- Tottenham have won each of their last nine Premier League home games against Crystal Palace. In their top-flight history, they’ve only won 10 in a row against Blackburn (1933 to 1966).

- In what is the 25th different campaign in which they’ve met, Crystal Palace are looking to complete their first ever league double over Tottenham.

- Tottenham Hotspur have picked up fewer points in Premier League London derbies this season than any other side (11), losing six of their 11 games (W3 D2). Only in 2004-05 have Spurs ever lost more London derbies in a league season (7).

Mateta warning

13:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Jean-Philippe Mateta starts for Crystal Palace this afternoon.

He netted a superb goal on his last visit to north London, so Tottenham have been warned.

Strong Crystal Palace team

13:20 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

With the exception of Adam Wharton, it is probably the strongest available Crystal Palace team.

That said, Oliver Glasner has made two changes to his starting XI this afternoon as Jefferson Lerma and Will Hughes are drafted into the midfield.

Tottenham changes

13:15 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Tottenham captain Heung-Min Son is back in the matchday squad after a six-game absence.

Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou has made eight changes from Thursday night's Europa League semi-final second-leg win over Bodo/Glimt.

Pedro Porro, Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur are the sole survivors as Antonin Kinsky, Ben Davies, Kevin Danso, Djed Spence, Pape Matar Sarr, Archie Gray, Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert are drafted in.

Ange Postecoglou responds to Ruben Amorim's early verdict on Europa League final

12:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Ange Postecoglou is not resting on his laurels ahead of the Europa League final despite never losing to Manchester United as Tottenham manager.

Tottenham beat Bodo/Glimt 2-0 in Norway on Thursday as United thumped Athletic Club 4-1 at Old Trafford to set up an all-English European showpiece on May 21.

Postecoglou has faced United five times as Spurs head coach, winning on four occasions and drawing once. Three of those meetings came this campaign, with Spurs completing the league double over United either side of dumping them out of the Carabao Cup shortly after Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

Speaking after beating Athletic Club, Amorim joked that lightning probably would not strike a fourth time. Postecoglou, though, was far more pragmatic.

Europa League finalists

Thursday night was a special one for Tottenham.

Relieve their win over Bodo/Glimt to reach the Europa League final.

Son latest

12:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Tottenham captain Heung-min Son has arrived with the squad for today’s London derby against Crystal Palace.

Tottenham predicted XI

12:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Tottenham are short of midfield options after losing James Maddison and Lucas Bergvall to ligament damage until next season.

Rodrigo Bentancur may be asked to go again at No6, alongside Pape Matar Sarr, while there is a case that Dejan Kulusevski’s creativity will be needed at No10.

Richarlison only played an hour in Norway so may be fit enough to start for a fourth game running through the middle, with Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel likely to flank the Brazilian again.

Tottenham predicted XI (4-3-3): Vicario; Gray, Danso, Davies, Spence; Bentancur, Sarr, Kulusevski; Odobert, Richarlison, Tel.

A unique Premier League London derby

12:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Ange Postecoglou said it himself in the dressing room in Norway: every minute and every game between Tottenham's semi-final win over Bodo/Glimt and kick-off in Bilbao on May 21, should be put towards nothing else but preparing to beat Manchester United.

If Spurs' league form felt like an afterthought before they booked their place in an all-English showpiece, now it is a total irrelevance.

Who cares if Spurs finish 17th, as the worst of the rest in the top-flight, if they win a first European trophy in 41 years?

Beat United, and this season will be remembered as the best in Spurs' modern history, rather than one of their worst of the Premier League era.

As such, Sunday's visit of Crystal Palace has next to no significance in its own right for Spurs, and is little more than a chance for fans to begin a 10-day build up to the final in Basque country and for Postecoglou to manage his squad.

Welcome

11:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Hello and welcome to Standard Sport’s LIVE coverage of Tottenham vs Crystal Palace!

After beating Bodo/Glimt on Thursday night to reach the Europa League final, all of Spurs' attentions will be on the May 21 showdown in Bilbao against Manchester United.

Meanwhile, the fact that Palace will be focused on a cup final of their own next weekend, today's London derby has very little riding on it.

Nevertheless, kick-off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is at 2.15pm BST. Stay tuned for all the build-up.
