Tottenham vs Chelsea: Maurizio Sarri insists Mauricio Pochettino 'has to win a trophy'

Maurizio Sarri has heaped pressure on Mauricio Pochettino ahead of Chelsea's EFL Cup semi-final against Tottenham by claiming that the Spurs coach "has to win a trophy".

Neither Sarri nor Pochettino have won a trophy in their coaching careers.

But ahead of Tuesday night's EFL Cup semi-final first leg at Wembley Stadium, Sarri made a point that former Argentina international Pochettino has been at the north London club for four trophyless years, whereas he arrived at Stamford Bridge in July.

"I agree he (Pochettino) has to win a trophy, I hope not this (one)," he added.

"Do I have to win one? I think it is the same of course but Pochettino is in Tottenham from four years ago and I am here from six months.

"I think that here in the first season it is really very difficult for everybody.

"For Pochettino, four years (without a trophy), for Jurgen Klopp, four years (without a trophy at Liverpool).

"It was really very hard in the first season also for Pep Guardiola (at Manchester City) so here it is really very difficult to build up a very good team - you need time."
