Brighton left Tottenham with a hangover after thrashing the Europa League winners 4-1 away on Sunday to finish eighth in the Premier League standings. Spurs were in celebratory mood following their European triumph against Manchester United in midweek and took the lead through a Dominic Solanke penalty after 17 minutes following a clumsy foul on Mathys Tel by Mats Wieffer.
However, Brighton equalised six minutes after the break through Jack Hinshelwood, before he grabbed their second with a clever back-heel in the 64th. Matt O'Riley then scored from the spot after Diego Gomez was fouled by Yves Bissouma before Diego Gomez netted a stunner in added time for the visitors.
Tottenham ended the campaign in 17th place, their lowest league finish in 21 years, with 38 points being the club's lowest ever Premier League tally. However, the home fans were more focused on celebrating their European success. 17:18 , Alex YoungBrighton switched it up at half-time, introducing Mitoma and Gomez, and it's been a different game since.
Spurs made their own change at the interview, with Odobert on for Sarr, but it has only made them more open through the middle.
CHANCE!
17:16 , Alex Young56min: Johnson almost puts Spurs back in front after arriving late into the area and almost getting on the end of Tel’s cutback.

Second half
17:04 , Alex Young46min: And we’re back underway!
Odobert is coming on for Spurs, replacing Sarr.
Mitoma and Gomez are coming on for Brighton.
Here come the teams for the second half.
I’ll be stunned if Spurs don’t make at least one half-time change. Some of these lot must be running on fumes.
The game itself feels secondary to the chance for Spurs fans to continue celebrating their European success but the hosts are playing as well as they have done in the league for months.
Solanke's cool penalty is the difference, although you wonder if Spurs' partying may catch up with them in the second half.

Half-time!
16:49 , Alex Young47min: There’s the whistle. Spurs are good value for their lead.
Tottenham 1-0 Brighton
16:47 , Alex Young45min: One minute added on.

Tottenham 1-0 Brighton
16:40 , Alex Young38min: Tottenham should be 2-0 up!
A free-flowing move sees Porro feed Tel into the area, but the striker is unable to beat Verbruggen from point-blank range.
A poor finish.
Tottenham 1-0 Brighton
16:38 , Alex Young37min: Brighton are starting to create more and more chances.
Tottenham 1-0 Brighton
16:37 , Alex Young34min: Johnson is certainly not lacking in effort today. He’s just been tripped by Ayari and just has a huge grin on his face.
Tottenham 1-0 Brighton
16:33 , Alex Young30min: Super save from Vicario to deny Hinshelwood from the corner. Point-blank range.
Tottenham 1-0 Brighton
16:28 , Alex Young26min: Danso does well to hold off Minteh and then get fouled, much to the frustration of the travelling fans.
Tottenham 1-0 Brighton
16:26 , Alex Young24min: Tel has the chance to float a free kick delivery into the area from out wide. It beats the first man but not the second as Brighton clear.
Dan Kilpatrick at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
16:25 , Alex YoungI said Tel had been getting into some good positions but he had not done much with the ball in the opening 15 minutes. But on that occasion, he drove inside and was definitely caught by Wieffer.
And it was a lovely penalty by Solanke. Spurs may be hungover but they're also full of confidence and it's showing.

Tottenham 1-0 Brighton
16:24 , Alex Young22min: Bentanctur producing his best game... well, since Wednesday. A real standout in the early stages.
Tottenham 1-0 Brighton

Tottenham 0-0 Brighton
16:15 , Alex Young13min: Great block from Danso concedes a Brighton corner, their first in the game.
Dan Kilpatrick at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
16:14 , Alex YoungThere were incredible scenes here before kick-off as the club continues to celebrate their Europa League triumph. The vibes at Spurs have not been this good since 2019.
And given they have been a 72-hour bender, Spurs have started the game fairly well, with Mathys Tel getting into some good positions down the left flank.

Tottenham 0-0 Brighton
16:12 , Alex Young10min: Wieffer almost with a rocket from inside the area after some slugging defending from Spurs.
Tottenham 0-0 Brighton
16:10 , Alex Young7min: Possession again won high up the pitch by Spurs, Tel is fed into the area and he looks to bend a shot inside the far corner... but the block is made.

Super delivery from Tel, but Van de Ven cannot get the vital touch to nod in.
Tottenham 0-0 Brighton
16:06 , Alex Young5min: Tel now tries to win the ball high up and also instead commits a foul. Spurs pressing plenty at the moment.
Tottenham 0-0 Brighton
16:05 , Alex Young3min: Adingra with a first-time effort across goal, almost out of nothing. Decent chance but Vicario had it covered.
Tottenham 0-0 Brighton
16:04 , Alex Young2min: Sarr wins the ball high up in the Brighton half but fouls Baleba in the process.
Every player getting a touch in the opening stages.
Kick-off!
16:00 , Alex Young1min: Here we go!
Here come the teams.
Some sight, with thousands of flags being waved as the fans await the players to come out.
Son and Maddison showing dancing near the touchline before waving to fans.
Reckon he is seeing double?

Players are back in their dressing rooms after final preparations.
Here’s Dan Kilpatrick, for one final time.
🏆 "Spurs have already made history and made this a successful season."

Kick-off is fast approaching.
I saw in north London on Friday to watch Brennan Johnson fully enjoy himself at the trophy parade. Almost stunned he is starting today.

Conference League permutations
15:12 , Alex YoungBrighton need to finish eighth to qualify directly for the Conference League, where they currently sit.
A point today would be enough for them to finish ahead of ninth-placed Brentford..
They both still need Chelsea to lose today at Nottingham Forest and then win the Conference League final on Wednesday.
Spurs are certainly stronger than expected.
All of Vicario, Porro, Van de Ven, Udogie, Bentancur, Sarr, Johnson and Solanke keep their place from Bilbao.
Danso, Gray and Tel come in for Romero, Bissouma and Son.

We’ll have team news in just under 10 minutes. How many have sobered up?
The party continues in north London. I wonder how big the scoreline could be today spoil the mood.

Score prediction
14:25 , Alex YoungIt is hard to imagine Spurs turning up to this game with all guns blazing - more likely they will be rather cloudy-headed after the celebrations from Bilbao.
Brighton, though, have little to play for. Ending the season away from home with nothing on the line but eighth place in the table is hardly motivating.
All signs point to a quiet end to both sides’ campaigns, as both managers will likely look to hand their fringe players one last run out before they jet off for their summer holidays, though Brighton’s quality may see them through as Tottenham ward off a hangover.
Brighton to win, 1-0.
Early Brighton team news
14:19 , Alex YoungTariq Lamptey and Jason Steele face late fitness tests for Brighton, while Joao Pedro will miss out again after he sat out last week’s win over Liverpool after a training-ground altercation with Jan Paul van Hecke.
Georginio Rutter, Solly March, Ferdi Kadioglu and James Milner are all sidelined.
Early Tottenham team news
14:12 , Alex YoungAnge Postecoglou wil be making plenty of changes today.
The Spurs squad have been in party mode since beating Manchester United to win the Europa League on Wednesday, which has raised questions about the team Postecoglou will select for the final day of the season.
Postecoglou encouraged the players to “enjoy the moment” but has said Spurs “want to make it a good day” and “finish the season off strong”.
Heung-min Son and Cristian Romero have been ruled out, while Yves Bissouma is a doubt after suffering a knock in the Europa League final.
Postecoglou has said “the rest of them physically are okay” but he may not want to risk Micky van de Ven given his injury record.
James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski remain sidelined.

How to watch?
14:06 , Alex YoungThe game has not been selected for TV coverage in the UK today, with events at Anfield, Old Trafford and the County Ground deemed more important.
You’ll just have to follow every kick along with us.
Welcome
14:00 , Alex YoungGood afternoon and welcome to the London Standard’s LIVE coverage of the Premier League clash between Tottenham and Brighton.
For Spurs, the party continues after their Europa League win. Much of the team on show in Bilbao will be given a rest today, be it entirely or from the line-up.
Brighton, though, still harbour hopes of a Conference League spot - though need plenty to go in their favour. A win today is a must.
Kick-off is at 4pm. Stick with us.
