Tottenham vs Dortmund: Prediction, lineups, odds, live stream, TV, tickets, h2h – Champions League preview

Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund
Uefa Champions League 2018-19 | Round of 16, first leg
Venue: Wembley Stadium
Date: Wednesday, February 13, 2019
Kick-off: 8pm GMT

The Champions League returns to Wembley on Wednesday evening as increasingly familiar foes Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund go head-to-head for the fifth time in three years.

Following a hugely disappointing start to their Group B campaign, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino claimed that his team achieved "mission impossible" by qualifying for the last 16 after Lucas Moura's late equaliser in Barcelona dovetailed with a failure on Inter Milan's part to beat PSV Eindhoven.

Dortmund enjoyed a more relaxed and straightforward journey to the first knockout phase, losing just once en route to topping Group A ahead of Atletico Madrid by virtue of a superior head-to-head record.

Lucien Favre's side are enjoying an excellent domestic season and are currently on course to end rivals Bayern Munich's formidable run of six consecutive Bundesliga triumphs by claiming their first title since 2012.

Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund team news and predicted line-ups

Spurs could possibly have Harry Kane back in the fold for the visit of Dortmund as the England captain makes good progress in his recovery from an ankle ligament injury sustained against Manchester United in January, though he was originally not expected to return to action until March.

The latter prognosis was the same for Dele Alli, who strained his hamstring during a 2-1 win at Fulham. Heung-min Son has played a crucial role in the absence of Kane and Alli after returning to north London following South Korea's exit from the Asian Cup.

Meanwhile, left-back Ben Davies has been dealing with a groin problem of late and seems likely to miss out.

Tottenham XI: Lloris, Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Sissoko, Winks, Lamela, Eriksen, Son, Lucas Moura

As for Dortmund, Marco Reus is an injury doubt after suffering a suspected thigh problem during Tuesday's DFB-Pokal Cup last-16 defeat by Werder Bremen.

Manuel Akanji (hip) and Leonardo Balerdi (mouth) are also dealing with injury issues.

Borussia Dortmund XI: Burki, Piszczek, Weigl, Diallo, Hakimi, Witsel, Delaney, Sancho, Guerreiro, Gotze, Alcacer

Score prediction: Tottenham 2-2 Dortmund

Having Kane available would obviously be enormous for Tottenham's hopes of progressing through to the quarter-finals of Europe's elite club competition for the first time since 2011, while Jadon Sancho will no doubt relish the chance to further underline his quality back on English soil.

These two teams scored a similar number of goals during the group stage, but Spurs conceded 10 while Dortmund shipped only two. An entertaining draw could be on the cards.

Head to Head history and results (h2h)

The two sides have met on four previous occasions in European competition, with Dortmund breezing to a 5-1 aggregate victory in the Europa League round of 16 back in 2016.

They were also drawn into the same Champions League group last season, with Tottenham - who saw Jan Vertonghen sent off in second-half stoppage time - winning 3-1 at Wembley courtesy of Son and a brace from Kane.

Pochettino's men eventually secured top spot in Group H as Son and Kane combined once more to cancel out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's opener in a 2-1 victory at Signal Iduna Park.
