Jan Vertonghen inspired Tottenham Hotspur to an impressive victory against Borussia Dortmund, scoring the second goal after providing a good cross for Son Heung-min to open the scoring at Wembley.
In the absence of Harry Kane and Dele Alli, Son has been in great form since returning to the squad after the Asia Cup and continued his fine run into the first leg of this last-16 Champions League tie.
Son volleyed Vertonghen’s well-weighted cross beyond Roman Burki and scored his ninth goal against the German club to give Spurs a deserved lead for their work in the second half.
The defender, playing as a wing-back, then added one of his own in similar fashion, a volley from Serge Aurier’s deep cross.
Fernando Llorente added a third late on to give Mauricio Pochettino’s side a great chance of playing in the Champions League quarter-final for the first time since 2011, barring a seismic collapse.
