And Spurs go fifth. They were brilliant today – and you have to see them as top-four candidates.
Well, thanks to that Terry goal Chelsea stay top of the Premier League, but by the tightest of margins. They and City have identical records with 20 games played.
Peep!! PEEP!! PEEEEEEEP!!! What a game. What. A. Game.
90+5 min: Handshakes from Mourinho on the touchline.
90+4 min: Some excellent corner quadrant work from Spurs uses up another minute.
90+3 min: Bentaleb surges forward as Spurs look to end this on a high. He slips it wide to Chadli who kills a few seconds in the corner quadrant.
90+1 min: Fabregas almost beats Lloris at his near post, but the keeper does very well to tip the ball onto the outside of the post.
90 min: There’ll be a minimum of five added minutes for Spurs to survive.
89 min: Kane picks up a booking for kicking the ball away.
88 min: Costa spanks a shot straight at Lloris from the right corner of the box.
GOAL! Tottenham 5-3 Chelsea (Terry 87)
This is getting silly. Spurs are napping after a quick free-kick, Hazard rolls the ball across goal where Ivanovic and Costa can’t make contact but the unmarked Terry at the back post can. He crashes home from a couple of yards out, but surely it’s too little too late.
85 min: Sensational from Hazard, who mesmerises Walker with some stepovers in the box before laying off to Salah. His shot is weakly struck straight at Lloris.
84 min: Ramires gets in behind the Spurs backline. Under pressure from Fazio he pokes his shot an inch wide with Lloris beaten.
83 min: Ivanovic hoists in a cross and at the back post Fabregas meets it, but his header drifts straight to Lloris.
82 min: Looking back at that Cahill “It’s time to kick some back” incident, he could well have been off had Dowd had a proper view. A bit naughty from the Chelsea defender. Meanwhile, Fabregas catches Vertonghen late and goes into the Big Book of Bad Men.
81 min: Handbags. Fabregas and Vertonghen exchange a few words and we get a bit of a melee. No one can quite decide what they’re melee-ing for, so things disperse pretty quickly.
79 min: Did anyone see this coming? I have to confess I did not see this coming.
GOAL! Tottenham 5-2 Chelsea (Chadli 78)
A fifth! Five goals! Five! Chelsea are pulled apart by Kane and Chadli, with the latter cutting in from the left and slotting past Courtois. That was far too easy.
Updated
77 min: Kane gets an unfortunate kick in the back from Gary Cahill. Ouch.
76 min: Ben Davies replaces Rose for Spurs.
75 min: What a save! The ball is rolled across the edge of the box to Azpilicueta who strikes cleanly towards the bottom corner only to see Lloris reach out a paw and brilliantly deflect the ball away.
75 min: Fabregas looks to dink a ball through to Costa but Vertonghen gets up to head away for the umpteenth time this evening.
73 min: Fabregas pings the free-kick straight into the wall.
72 min: Paulinho goes into Dowd’d Big Book of Very Bad Men after a ludicrously high boot waggled near the head of Azpilicueta. Before the free-kick, Chelsea make a change: Salah on for Willian. Commence thoughtful chin-rubbing.
71 min: Chadli fires a shot at goal from the left edge of the area but it’s straight at Courtois.
70 min: On the touchline Mourinho goes postal at the fourth official after Hazard’s run on goal is unceremoniously ended by a Tottenham defender. Hazard didn’t seem to think it was a foul. His manager rather did.
69 min: Chadli’s deep cross finds Eriksen at the back post, but he can’t get his shot past the recovering defenders.
68 min: Kane is in behind the Chelsea defence once more, latching onto a pass and skipping past Courtois then rolling the ball across the face of goal from the tightest of angles.
67 min: Andros Townsend is replaced by Paulinho as Pochettino looks to solidify his midfield.
66 min: Bentaleb becomes the first player in Phil Dowd’s Big Book Of Very Bad Men after cynically dragging back Willian.
Updated
65 min: Lloris yawns, does a crossword, learns Japanese, knits a sweater and then, finally, takes a goal kick. It’s sensible really – Spurs could do with taking the sting out of this.
63 min: Tottenham have got very sloppy in the last couple of minutes.
GOAL! Tottenham 4-2 Chelsea (Hazard 61)
Oh Fazio. The centre half inexplicably starts dribbling out of defence. Hazard nicks the ball, exchanges clever passes with Fabregas and then smashes the ball past Lloris from 10 yards. It was shocking stuff from Fazio, but ruthlessly exploited by the visitors. 4-2!
Updated
60 min: “Anyone else hoping that Pochettino goes across to shake hands with Mourinho with about 20 minutes left?” wonders Mel B (presumably not that one).
59 min: … curled in by Fabregas but it’s a shocker, straight at the first man. And as the ball is worked back in the Spaniard hoists an effort yards over the bar.
58 min: Hazard wriggles forward and is brought down 30-odd yards from the Tottenham goal …
56 min: Fabregas swings a diagonal free-kick into the box, but a Tottenham head is on the end of it.
54 min: This is the first time a Mourinho Chelsea side have conceded four goals in the Premier League.
4 - Chelsea have conceded four goals in a Premier League game under Jose Mourinho for the first time. Humbled.

GOAL! Tottenham 4-1 Chelsea (Kane 52)
This is quite brilliant from Harry Kane. He receives the ball with his back to goal, pirouettes past Matic’s tackle on the edge of the box, then slots past Courtois. Chelsea are getting a shellacking.
Updated
52 min: Hazard fizzes a shot over Lloris’s bar from the edge of the box after strong work from Ramires.
51 min: Azpilicueta thunks a through-ball straight out of play.
49 min: A lovely turn from Eriksen gets him skittering into the box but in the end there are just too many Chelsea defenders in the way. Still, Spurs have been bright since the break.
48 min: Chadli whups in a cross but there’s only Kane in the box for Spurs.
47 min: Fabregas finds a charging Costa down the left, but Walker does enough to snuff out the danger.
46 min: Ramires is on. Oscar is off.
Peep! Off we go again.
Updated
Chelsea have been sent out early for the second half, most likely with a considerable flea in their collective ear.
3 - Chelsea have conceded more than once before half-time for the first time since playing Pochettino's Southampton in March 2013. Blueprint

Peep! PEEP!! And that’s the final kick of a sensational half. Wowsers.
GOAL! Tottenham 3-1 Chelsea (Townsend 45+4pen)
Townsend steps up and rolls the ball calmly past Courtois.
Updated
PENALTY! TO SPURS!
Kane gets to the ball just ahead of Cahill, who upends the striker. That is a nailed-on penalty.
45+2 min: There’ll be a touch more than the advertised two minutes of added time due to the Rose injury.
45 min: Rose needs a bit of magic sponge treatment before the game restarts. It was Cahill who clattered him – had the ball not gone in it would’ve been a penalty.
GOAL! Tottenham 2-1 Chelsea (Rose 44)
Spurs lead! Eriksen does brilliantly out on the right, driving forward then slipping the ball through to Chadli. His shot hits the upright and the left-back slots home the rebound as a defender slides in. He is, in fact, flat on his back with his feet in the air as the ball goes in.
Updated
43 min: Costa catches Vertonghen with a sliding challenge. He really does Put Himself About.
41 min: Chadli clips the ball over Courtois and sees his effort hit the outside of the post … but the flag is up anyway.
39 min: Willian sees his shot at goal loop up off someone’s heals – Hazard is through but can only head the ball blindly behind. If he’d known the time he had that would’ve been a very decent chance. But he didn’t so, you know, it wasn’t.
37 min: Rose does well to cope with a storming Ivanovic run with Bentaleb guilty of failing to track the run.
36 min: Hazard pressures Vertonghen but the defender clatters the ball away into the north London air. Both teams taking a bit of a pre-half-time breather here.
34 min: … flicked on but smuggled away by Chelsea.
33 min: Neat stuff from Spurs ends with Rose overlapping down the left. Ivanovic tracks the run well, but it’s a corner …
32 min: Kane has come a long way since his debut …
GOAL! Tottenham 1-1 Chelsea (Kane 30)
What a strike. Brilliant stuff from the man of the moment at White Hart Lane. He cuts in from the left, holds off Oscar, holds him off again, then rifles a shot into the bottom corner from 25 yards.
Updated
29 min: Tottenham have weathered the storm and have a foothold in the game once more.
27 min: Stat!
Diego Costa has ended up on the winning side in each of the last 40 league matches he has scored in (in England and Spain). #CFC #EPL
— Infostrada Sports (@InfostradaLive) January 1, 2015
25 min: Townsend plonks a cross straight to Courtois.
24 min: Oscar pokes just wide after more neat buildup work from Hazard and Costa.
@John_Ashdown Is it my ears or did Michael Owen say Hazard has a "low sense of gravity"?
— Richard J (@richardygk) January 1, 2015
Yup …
23 min: Costa rolls the back back from the by-line but Oscar can’t gather it into his path. Spurs are rocking a little here.
22 min: Hazard clips a free-kick into the box from out on the left, but he fails to beat the first man.
20 min: Fabregas looks to put Costa in again but Fazio gets back to clear as the striker hesitates.
19 min: Spurs think Costa was offside either as he tapped in or as Hazard first shot. They have a case with the latter.
GOAL! Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (Diego Costa 18)
Hazard beats Rose on the edge of the box then rifles a shot against the base of the post. Oscar pings the rebound goalwards and Costa taps in from about a yard out.
Updated
18 min: … Eriksen chips in but it’s straight into the hands of goalkeeping man-octopus Thibaut Courtois. Chelsea break …
17 min: Townsend tears past Azpilicueta and wins his team a corner …
16 min: Chadli connects cleanly with an overhead effort from a tight angle and Courtois is forced into a smart save.
15 min: A brief pitched battle in the centre of the pitch as the two teams trade possession. Fabregas is to the fore with everything Chelsea do.
14 min: Dembele comes on for the stricken Ryan Mason.
13 min: Kane puts Chadli away down the left and it requires Gary Cahill to come across and tidy up.
11 min: Ryan Mason looks to have twanged a hamstring in making that burst a minute or two ago. He hobbles down the tunnel and Spurs are temporarily down to 10.
Updated
10 min: Costa looks to shape a shot at goal from the edge of the box, spanks it against Vertonghen (who is about a foot away) and then appeals pointlessly for a penalty.
9 min: Matic is loose in midfield and Kane skitters forward. He lays off to Townsend, who is close to finding a surging Mason with his pass. Spurs have been the better side thus far.
8 min: Fabregas looks to pick out Costa with a glorious ping from the halfway line. The striker can’t quite bring the ball under his spell, though, and the chance disappears.
7 min: Willian brings down Chadli in the centre circle. It’s been pretty feisty thus far.
5 min: Phil Dowd has a long word with Danny Rose after he clashes with Costa. There’s not a lot in it, but it looks a pretty stern telling off from the referee.
4 min: Neat interplay between Eriksen and Bentaleb puts Chadli into space 25 yards out. He might spread the ball right to Townsend but instead opts to smite a shot at goal and Courtois is able to gather with little fuss.
3 min: Tottenham force the first corner of the game but Eriksen’s delivery is met by a Chelsea head.
2 min: Willian breaks onto the Spurs back four and feeds Costa, who has drifted out to the left. His low cross, though, is deflected into the waiting arms of Hugo Lloris.
Peep! Off we go then.

Stating the obvious slightly here …
The players are met by loud cries of 'Come on you Spurs!' #COYS

Click-clack, click-clack … the teams are in the tunnel.
Hot breaking news here. Diego Costa is wearing a snood. And when he entered White Hart Lane he wasn’t wearing headphones. Maverick.

So after the 3pm results, Chelsea remain top on goal difference. A 2-0 win for Spurs, though, would send Manchester City top. Tottenham are seventh but could leapfrog Arsenal into fifth with a win.
Elsewhere, the full-time whistles are blowing around the grounds. Get all the scores right here.
Tottenham have confirmed that Lamela is out because of a calf problem.
The teams
Tottenham: Lloris (c), Walker, Fazio, Vertonghen, Rose; Bentaleb, Mason; Chadli, Eriksen, Townsend; Kane. Subs: Vorm, Chiriches, Davies, Dembele, Paulinho, Stambouli, Soldado.
Chelsea: Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry (c), Azpilicueta; Matic, Fabregas; Willian, Oscar, Hazard; Diego Costa. Subs: Cech, Zouma, Mikel, Ramires, Salah, Remy, Drogba.
So no Filipe Luis or Andre Schurrle for Chelsea. Lamela, Lennon and Dembele all absent for Spurs.
Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone. So this should be interesting. Tottenham have quietly got themselves into the Champions League mix over the last fortnight or so. And as it stands Arsenal, West Ham and Liverpool are all in the process of dropping points …
Chelsea fans, meanwhile, have seen Manchester United draw at Stoke and Manchester City go through the ringer against Sunderland. It’s been an entertaining start to 2015 in the Premier League. Fingers crossed the trend continues.
