GOAL! Leicester City 1-2 Everton

Premier League: Gylfi Sigurdsson twists James Maddison’s blood and curls the ball into the top corner from 35 yards out to score an absolute beauty. It’s his 50th Premier League goal and he probably hasn’t scored better.

Championship: Harvey Barnes has scored for West Brom to give them a two-goal cushion at the Madejski Stadium. They lead Reading 3-1.

A red card at the King Power Stadium: As the goals were flying in and the blood was pouring (Huddersfield’s Christopher Schindler is back on the field after a lengthy period of treatment), I didn’t get a chance to tell you that Leicester City’s Wes Morgan has been given his marching orders for the second time in four games after picking up his second yellow of the afternoon.

An injury at Turf Moor: I’m told Christopher Schindler is pumping blood from his nose or an injury to his eye after being flattened by a Chris Wood elbow. I haven’t seen the incident, but can only guess it was accidental as no disciplinary action has been taken against the Burnley striker.

Women's friendly: England 1-0 Brazil

Fran Kirby’s early goal gave England Women a 1-0 friendly win over Brazil at Meadow Lane. Kirby headed in less than two minutes into the contest but England could not add to their lead despite a string of chances - most of which came through the impressive Nikita Parris.

Brazil goalkeeper Barbara made a couple of fine saves in the second half but while England’s hunt for a second goal was frustrated it was just as noticeable how little Carly Telford was troubled in the opposite goal. Full report to follow ...

Championship result: Leeds 1-1 Brentford

It’s all over at Elland Road, where Pontus Jansson headed home a late equaliser for the home side, to cancel out Brentford’s contentious opener after Ollie Watkins appeared to take a dive to win the penalty from which Neal Maupay opened the scoring.

Leeds right-back Luke Ayling got a late red card, but his side held on to win a share of the points that extends their lead at the top of the table to a whole point.

After dropping two points, they could, however, find themselves overtaken by one or all of Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and West Brom by close of play today.

Championship: Leeds have equalised against Brentford in the 88th minute to make it 1-1. Pontus Jansson headed home after Leeds won a soft free-kick wide on the left. It’s been a very entertaining game of football and this is no more than Leeds deserved. Brentford should be down to 10 men after Moses Odubajo was very lucky to escape a second yellow card, while the penalty awarded to Brentford for an obvious dive by Ollie Watkins was extremely harsh. It’s 1-1 at Elland Road and we’re in added time.

Greetings one and all. All eyes are likely to be on Old Trafford later today, following overnight reports that the jig would be up for José Mourinho whatever the outcome. Idle rumour – and it is bone idle – suggests this information may have come from the Mourinho camp in order to guarantee the manager a warm welcome from the Old Trafford faithful this evening and the club hierarchy has since briefed reporters to say their manager’s future is not under immediate threat.

Whatever’s going on, it’s a mess but one we can focus our attention on later. In the meantime there are five other games to look forward to, as well as plenty of action from the Championship, League One, League Two, up in Scotland and beyond. Stay tuned for team news, updates, goal alerts and post-match reaction. In the meantime, here’s some pre-match listening from our award-winning podcast.
