Tottenham urged to sign Man Utd transfer target Edinson Cavani after Harry Kane injury

Darren Bent has urged Tottenham to make a move for PSG striker Edinson Cavani.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is desperately short of attacking options with talisman Harry Kane rule out for three months with a hamstring tear.

A loan move for AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek has been rejected with reports a deal has been agreed believed to be wide of the mark.

Lyon's Moussa Dembele and Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik are also under consideration but Bent believes they should be going for Cavani.

The Uruguayan is out of contract at the end of the season and has attracted interest from Chelsea and Manchester United .

Atletico Madrid remains the most likely destination with PSG striker Cavani, 32, free to talk to foreign clubs this month.

But Bent believes his former side should be trying to lure Cavani to north London.

"Spurs now, in this window, need to go and sign a centre-forward, and not just one that can play back-up to Harry Kane when he gets back," he told talkSPORT.

"They need one to come in now, that’s ready to go. Cavani – there’s your guy, go and get him. He’s getting on in age but he can still do a job."

Son Heung Min has successfully deputised for Kane in recent seasons and Spurs also have 17-year-old rising star Troy Parrott at their disposal.

But Mourinho knows he needs to bring in a senior striker before the end of the month, if his side are to have any hope of making the top four.

Ahead of this weekend's visit of Liverpool , they sit in sixth, six points adrift of Chelsea.
