Tottenham urged to consider Danny Ings transfer amid Harry Kane injury woes

Tottenham have been encouraged to make a January swoop for Southampton marksman Danny Ings.

Jose Mourinho is having to deal without Harry Kane for several weeks after the frontman suffered a hamstring injury - ironically in a 1-0 defeat at Southampton which saw Ings score the winner.

It was the 27-year-old's 13th Premier League strike of the season and his seventh in his last eight games.

Former Tottenham man Darren Bent reckons Ings would provide, not just cover while Kane is injured, but a genuine threat to his starting role.

He said on TalkSPORT : “If Spurs were to go and get Danny Ings and he was to go and score five or six goals before Harry Kane gets back, I don’t think automatically Harry Kane walks back in the team.

“You are getting the best out of someone, you are winning games now and you have someone who can stick the ball in the back of the net.

“I know Harry Kane is important and is one of the world’s best, but he would just have to be patient.

“How could you change the team that is doing really well, winning games, pushing up the league to accommodate someone.

“But for me that’s the perfect fit and if Daniel Levy were to get Danny Ings, that would be a great signing.”

Tottenham have stuttered recently following Mourinho's initial impact having won just one of their last four league outings.

The Portuguese manager will no doubt have sought assurances over Levy's willingness to spend with January now giving him an opportunity to shape his squad.

Meanwhile, Christian Eriksen's drawn out exit from north London could finally occur this month with Inter Milan supposedly keen.
