Tottenham urged to complete James Maddison transfer ahead of Man Utd

Premier League legend Matt Le Tissier reckons Tottenham should sign Leicester playmaker James Maddison as a replacement for wantaway star Christian Eriksen.

Spurs midfielder Eriksen has made no secret of his intention to leave the north London side, and was strongly linked with a switch to Manchester United or Real Madrid in the summer.

But a move failed to materialise and Eriksen, whose contract expires next summer, was forced to stay put until January.

However reports have recently emerged linking him with a January switch to United and Le Tissier reckons Maddison, who has previously been touted with an Old Trafford move, is the type of player Spurs should be looking at.

"He (Maddison) is a player that would be on the radar of a team like Spurs, especially if they were to lose Christian Eriksen," Le Tissier told  Sky Sports News .

"You look at James Maddison and he would be a pretty ideal replacement. I think this boy has got everything in his locker.

"He has been quite unfortunate that he has not already been capped by England.

"I really do think that his performances at Leicester warranted him making his debut before he actually got in the squad."

And Arsenal icon Paul Merson echoed Le Tissier's view, believing Maddison has the ability to shine for one of the Premier League big guns.

"The biggest compliment for him is that he's got vision," Merson told Sky Sports.

"You can't teach vision, you either have it or you don't. He has that in abundance. He has a massive future and he'll score more goals as his career progresses."

Maddison has scored once and provided two assists in six league games this season, but the former Norwich star missed Sunday's 5-0 thrashing of Newcastle with an ankle problem.
