Tottenham under pressure to increase Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg transfer bid or lose out to Everton

Tottenham are under pressure to increase their offer for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after Southampton indicated they had accepted a £25million bid from Everton for the midfielder.

Tottenham's own offer is thought to be some way below Saints' valuation of the 24-year-old but Spurs have not given up hope of signing Hojbjerg, who has indicated a preference for moving to north London.

Spurs were hoping to use Kyle Walker-Peters, who is impressing on loan at St. Mary's, as a makeweight but Saints would prefer to keep the deals separate, with the right-back confident of securing his own move even if Hojbjerg joins Everton.

Hojbjerg's own preference could be significant but Saints are adamant that Spurs will have to increase their bid for the former Bayern Munich player, who has one year remaining on his contract and was stripped of the captaincy at St. Mary's after refusing to sign a new deal.

Spurs have been tracking Hojbjerg since January, with manager Jose Mourinho keen for a holding midfielder after selling Victor Wanyama and agreeing to use Eric Dier in defence. Mourinho rates Oliver Skipp but believes he needs a year on loan to toughen up before being ready for the first team.

Spurs are also interested in Heung-min Son's South Korean teammate Kim-min Jae and have been quoted £15million for the centre-half, 23, by Beijing Guoan.
